Back up and running.

I finally got back up and running after being down for one whole year after a fire on my 2000 GL 1500 SE with a DFT trike kit. I was fortunate that I was able to extinguish the fire quickly and minimized the damage. I did all the work myself for about $600.00.

Glad to hear you were able to contain the damage and the cost be so minimal. Don't get me wrong, $600 would be hard for me to come up with, but considering how much damage fires can cause, it sound like you were lucky.

In any event, welcome back to the land of the living.

Congrats on a job well done. You didn't mention where the fire occurred or what was required to repair it, inquiring minds want to know! Any photos?

It all started about a mile from the house, I heard a growling sound coming from forward right side. After checking all the gauges, they were normal, I continued to go home. I pulled into the shed and tryed to shut it down, niether the kill switch nor the ignition shut it down. So I held the brake and popped the clutch to stall it out. Then I went in the house to talk to the Mrs. About two minutes later I smelled the infamous odor all Fire Fighters know. I told Cheryl to call 911 and I went into the shed which was charged with smoke, put the bike in neutral and pulled it out. I got the garden hose and extinguished the fire before my guys ( the Fire Department got to my house.

After thinking about it I believe the starter got hung up and back fed the power to the starter solenoid and took out the battery box and all the wire harness above. Then it got under the seat and up. I am going to try to send some photos.

I got a used wire harness, new starter, used brake reservoir, use bank angle sensor, used battery box, new tubing for the air shocks and a new seat. It took me the better part of four months to fix it but she is running good. I put about 100 miles on it so far today and it is only 3:30.

All you guys wanted details so there it is.

Thanks

Wow Mike, quite an adventure but you're back on the road now through your hard work, congrats.

That was some fire. You did well brining that back to life on your own. I built my 2013 Harley Ultra Limited from salvage so I know what is involved with a large project. Congrats.
