Anyone know what the widest wheel tire combo that will fit on a factory Freewheeler?

I'm kind of a hotrod guy and I am planning on customizing my Freewheeler this winter. I'm just wondering if anybody else has tried a wider rear tire, wheel or both yet? It looks like there is about an inch clearance on the outside of the factory fender and almost that much on the inside. I just don't know how much clearance is necessary with the factory fender lip to keep from rubbing. I am not opposed to modifying the factory fenders either. Also not sure about how much the wider tires and stance would affect the turning geometry. Has anyone tried or seen something like this done???

Came across this on a customized Freewheeler, the full post us on Barnett HD. A bit radical for me but I did dig the wheels...see what you think! Here's some if the write up:
RC Components was called on for one of its new for 2016 30-inch Valor Eclipse wheels that adds a beefy bit of flash and makes for a more eye-pleasing/eye-distortion tire sidewall and rim ratio in black that helps hide the ultra-low aspect 30-inch tires. More like a modern hot rod wheel/tire look and it even makes the inside of the rim look a bit visually smaller and again, nicer looking, at least to me anyway.

Something to consider with that 1 inch clearance you see is getting the tire on and off. On my TRI the clearance that the factory setup provides is tight getting the tire on and off the trike with the fender. I went with a very nice Performance Machine wheel and low profile tire but the width is about the same and it just gives enough clearance to get on and off.

Never thought about that. Thanks!

I have seen a picture of that trike before. I really like that wheel/tire combination.

Also a wider tire is going to make your tike more prone to hydroplaning Blake....something to think about.

Thanks Zook, that is definitely something to think about. I'll give you a shout this afternoon.

At a cost .... you can have custom wheels made. Chip Foose has wheels made to order all the time! There are plenty of manufacturers that make "kit" fenders that could be made to work. Your existing fenders could be cut and widened. I'm assuming you want THIS look on a FLRT!

Nothing quite that extreme. More like 18x7" rear wheels and low aspect ratio tires. :)
