Anybody ever ask a goldwing rider ?

For some reason on my wing only my left foot gets hot , but only if I don't wear boots , boat shoes don't work well on a bike , flip flops not at all , but I see folks riding with them all the time.

When I had my Goldwing trike I had the same thing left foot would get hot. On a 600 mile trip I had a burn on top of my foot about 2" in diameter and I was wearing boots.

My trip this weekend was only 300 mile and after about a hour I no longer could keep on the stock peg (left side ) had to ride the forward peg except to shift. My wing is a 2010 , my last wing was a 2003 and I do not recall the problem , but it was two wheels not three,.:xzqxz:

I wouldn't get on a bike without over the ankle boots

And jeans - no shorts - that's for the GoldWing crowd.:)

I made the mistake of wearing shorts one time on a Harley. Wife wanted something from the store across from the Hotel, I was kicked back for the night and didn't feel like walking so I had the brilliant idea of taking my bike. On my 2 wheel Harley I always get off on the high side. While getting off I stuck my calf right against the hot pipe, nice 2nd degree burn and a lesson learned.

I have to admit when putting around town on a trike I will wear tennis shoes.

Tennis shoes? Don't your toes hurt doing that or do you use the heel shifter like I do? Even wearing my boots, after awhile my toes hurt.
I'd be afraid of a rock hitting my shins or ankles.

I use the heal toe shifter. I never gave getting hit with a rock much thought because any body part is fair game for flying objects which I've been hit with many of times. The 2 memorable were riding an Ultra Classic with the lowers on.

1st one was when the wife and I were coming home from a trip running a pleasant 2 lane. I was tooling along at 60 mph when I noticed a dump truck coming the other direction have a rock drop from the back. The rock bounced and hit me right in the left knee, hurt like heck and felt like it broke something. I pulled in a stopped managing to support the bike with my right leg, later that evening my left knee swelled like crazy but luckily nothing was broke.

The 2nd one was on a trip out west. We were running along down I90 at 80 mph when I saw something come off my dads bike, it hit the pavement and struck me in the face right below the left eye cutting me. The part turned out to be a piece of his tour-pak latch which had just broken.

msocko3, I got hit on the right knee with a June bug once I thought I was shot. :)

Another time I got stung by a bumble bee and a honey bee together at the same time up in Canada. They must have been doing the nasty when they they hit me(or should I say I hit them). I had on my leather jacket - they hit me in the chest and then slid down inside my left sleeve and then proceeded to sting me. Like you I was able to pull over and that's when I discovered the bees. Luckily my cousin, who is a nurse, was just a couple miles down the road and she was able to fix me up. My arm didn't want to do what I wanted it to do. :)
That's why I ride fully covered - you never know when you're going to get hit and with what. ThumbUp

I hate covering up in hot weather, but the alternatives are very painful.

All that while riding an Ultra. I can't imagine riding without a windshield and fairing.

Its amazing how much stuff you can be hit with even with a fairing and windshield in front of you. I don't like bee's, the wife got nailed a couple years ago when she brushed one off my shoulder and into her lap.

...I hate freakin bee's....two years ago I had one fly up my shirt, while at 70mph...the evil little bastid came to rest in my left armpit...long story shortend, I was running down the freeway slapping myself. He kept stinging me, so I sped up a lot to see if he would blow out of my shirt....there was a HP radar trap and I got a ticket...and stung 4 times in the armpit.....it was a very bad day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:gah:

Thats a nasty and painful place to be stung, then to be ticketed to boot.

Although the rumor mill has circulated in the past, the chatter is all over that Mother Harley is presently testing water cooling. Heat has been a ongoing complaint for the touring owners especially since Harley was forced to meet EPA standards. Before making modifications to mine, it would sit in the garage after a run and sound like kindling wood burning for 15min as it dissipated the heat from the pipes and engine. A set of Fullsac ceramic DX header pipes with 2" cores, TTS Master Tune, and Heavy Breather, have her running 100% cooler. My thighs don't get burnt up and I don't hear a peep out of the bike when she gets parked. It was worth every penny for these 3 upgrades. Increased HP, torque, better sound, and got rid of the heat issue.

Now it will be interesting if the conversion to 3 wheels makes any difference.

We hear the water cooler rumor many of times, for Harley's sake I hope its true. They need to turn the page and bring something fresh to the market, one can only use buzz words and snappy advertising so long before folks decide to move along.

Has anyone bothered to ask a Goldwing rider if they have the same problem The Harley's owners have with HEAT ? Or is this a Harley Issue and not Trike design ? Just wondering.
It scares me about buying one now!

Heat is a Harley problem. I’m new to trikes. I’d ask a wing rider if their trike is difficult to steer due to lack of rake angle like a Harley tri glide. I don’t hear wing riders talk about steering, rake kits, lift kits, etc. as much as Harley riders.

Earlier 1500 and 1800 Wings had some cooling fan issues, but I thought that was corrected in 2006 and newer models with bigger radiators and fans to mitigate heat. Even with the earlier models, when the temperature gauge would rise into the red zone, seldom was it reported that a Goldwing did actually overheat (Puke on the side of the road). In fact, I believe the owners manual said when the temp needle rises into the red zone, pull over, put the trans in neutral and idle the engine until the temp gauge went down to normal operating levels. Just the opposite of what you might think!

Aside from this, I have not heard of any other Goldwing heat issues that required a change in Fuel enrichment mapping, special tuning, an oil cooler, a different exhaust system (or CAT removal), high volume air intake, or other modifications. I am not bashing Harley Bikes or Trikes, as I have owned at least 5 Harley's of the two-wheeled persuasion from 2000 to 2015 and enjoyed the ride immensely. And Yes, I spent the additional $2,000 to $3,000+ on the things I mentioned above to get those bikes to run cooler. With the ever increasing EPA standards, Its just the nature of the air cooled V-Twin.

During my research to determine what Trike manufacturer I would go with, I saw quite a few conversion centers and Trike manufacturers, and folks on this forum, that recommended raking out the front end for better handling, and independent rear suspension for a smoother ride. My first ride on 3-wheels was a ride on a friend's 2009 TriGlide. My next ride was 14 years later on a Goldwing/CSC Encore Trike. After 14 years, I certainly can't compare the ride quality of one against the other and it may be down to rider individual preference. Try as many brand's as you can before buying.

I know this is a old post but a buddy of mine had a wing and got caught in stop n go traffic on the interstate in the dead of summer and he said that sucker gets hot as well.
