All this pressure from retired life has finally caught up with Vesta and I. Need to get away. Soooo, Sunday AM, Wife and I, and friend Jeff (Bikerbum) and his wife are off to Bullhead City, Az for a couple days riding around on the desert. Thursday morning we are heading to Sedona Az. to gawk at the red mountains, eat too much, and bask in the electro-magnetic fields that the local hippies say will rejuvenate us old folks. Will be meeting up with 10 or 12 other riders to tour around the old gold mines. Sunday the group breaks up, some going to the Grand Canyon, some to Utah, and a couple heading to Arkansas. We haven't decided where we will be heading...

Be sure & have a run at those switchbacks above Sedona. They were still there the last time I was there, but some talk about changing things. They are sharp enough to check your own tail lights !
Have fun !!
Ride safe !!

Have fun screwball! 'Ol Man Winter just doesn't want to let go of us Up Nort here yet. My wife had to bring in the flowers that she just planted so they wouldn't get frost bit overnite!! UUGGHH!!! Wish we were there!! Keep the rubber side down Bro!

If you're coming through Phoenix, and I completely understand where you would want to avoid that, give me a shout. It would be great to meet you. As somebody has already mentioned, don't miss out on going to Jerome for the twisties.

What a great ride! Just under 300 miles form our house in So. Cal. to the River house in Bullhead City, Az. We are going to fool around a couple of days, then meet up with some friends riding in from Northern Cal. Thursday it is off to Sedona to meet the others. We have been there a couple of times. Got to love the ride in via the Prescott Valley and Jerome. And the ride through Black Oak Canyon to Flagstaff. Forecast if for mid to high 80's all weekend.

Not sure if you have a place to stay in Sedona, but I've recommended this place to everyone that I know that's gone there for a visit and no one's been disappointed. It's called Sky Ranch Lodge. The rooms are "normal" hotel rooms but much larger. It's the grounds and surrounding views that makes it so special. It's on the road up to the airport in Sedona, so it's easy to find. Take a look at their website and you'll get an idea of what it looks like, the views and the landscaping in and around the hotel.

GoSlo, thanks for the info, the ride leader BlueRose made all the arangements. I have a zillion freebies stays (traveled with AT&T for years) so we usually stay at the Best Western right downtown, kind of hard to beat free.

AZT, thanks for the invite, wife and I do most of our riding in the South-West. Love the heat and really don't like rain. The main body of riders is coming up through Phoenix Thursday afternoon, we are meeting them in Sedona. Not sure of thier itenerary, they are doing an almost 600 mile day.... too much for my old bones.

Free is a good thing!! Have a great time.

Day 2 in Bullhead City, Az. It was a balmy 108* yesterday. Thank heaven for 'wet vests'. Soak them for a couple of minutes and they bring down your core temp 15 to 20* On the ride in air temps were 100 to 103* We were cruising at around 70mph in 6th gear on I-40. Had to drop into 5th on the 6% grade to maintain speed. Trike ran just over 230* on the hill, and dropped back to just under 230* on the downhill. Sitting in traffic in Laughlin, Nv. (Little Las Vegas) the ETIMS never kicked in, I had to check and make sure it wasn't disabled. Damn near boiled my brain! Bikerbum's trike doesn't have an oil temp gage, he said it felt fine. He is riding 2 up, but his two is still less than one of me.

The Harleys get the day off today, time to beat the SeaDoos up for the first time this season. Off to Sedona Thursday morning to meet up with the rest of the crew.

My phone and camera take huge pictures and I don't have the software on it to reduce them. Pictures in a couple of weeks when we get home.

Barbara, Bev says HI back, wishes you were here with us! Hell of a ride. 10 bikes, 12 people for 3 days of exploring Arizona. Sedona was 'home base', even did a lunch run to the Grand Canyon (about 260 miles) for food and a 'look around'. About 700 miles 'exploring', not counting the 800 mile round trip to get there..... lots of saddle time. Weather was excellent! About 1/2 hour of "mist" on the way to the Canyon, need a little rain to remind us Mother Nature is really the boss. We took about 300 pictures with the handle bar mounted Go Pro, and another 100 or so with the 'good' camera. When we get back to California next week I can process all the pictures with the good computer and make a slide show. All in all, this ride graded on a scale of 1 to 10 was at last a 32. 3 trikes, 1 Voyager Conversion, 2 'Wings', and 4 Harley 2 wheelers. Ages from 68 (me) to mid 30's.

NOW, time to beat up the Sea Doos, get a great sun burn, and polute the Colorado RIver.

Re: A little "r & r" in Arizona

Glommed some pictures from Face Book. First is Bev, (Blue Rose) past from this forum, the brains of this whole ride. Did the scheduling, reservations, maps, stops, sights, you name it. Me and Wife. We are at an overlook of Hwy 89a near Flagstaff Arizona. The other pictures are on the ride from Sedona, Az to the Grand Canyon for lunch. Mid to high 80's in Sedona, Grand Canyon is at 8000', so it got a bit cooler on the way there. Also got a spritz of rain, Guess Mother Nature wanted to remind us who is boss.
