Today I measured my "bike room" at the house.

WHY?

About 5 months ago we were on a trip and had the plumbing spring a leak while we were gone. It was caught by a neighbor within a couple of hours.

However, the damage was already done-
Flooring
Carpet
The base cabinets with countertops in the kitchen

All the above is covered by our homeowners insurance, and are being replaced. Additionally, since they could not match the cabinets, they are also replacing all the wall cabinets.

Photo of all the wall cabinets and half of the floor cabinets removed-

Cabinets%201.jpg

Another photo of a few of the cabinets in the living room removed from the kitchen (along with a ton of other things in process, including carpet and padding removed).

Cabinets%202.jpg

All of these cabinets and countertops that have been removed from the house will fit in my Bike Room.
:D

So, Mary is getting new kitchen cabinets, flooring and carpet, and I am going to be getting rid of all the shelves in the bike room and will have lots of countertop/workbench space, along with a much better way to store all my tools, parts and supplies.

I normally do a ride the last day and the first day of the year. That did not happen due to back surgery on Dec 9th. In the meanwhile, I’m living vicariously through you guys and gals that ARE able to ride, and stockpiling parts to install once I get cleared by the Doc! Right now, I have to follow the “BLT” rules (no Bending, Lifting, or Twisting).

Kevin - I’m looking forward to seeing you guys again at this years Open House. Last year was a blast and hope to be bringing even more trikes with me this year!

Praying your recovery from back surgery is quick and complete!

Looking forward to seeing you at this years Open House. We will be deciding on a date soon.

I know you guys up north find our little winter storm to be just another day. But we rarely get significant snow here.

This image is the last time we had significant accumulation, and it was in Feb. of 2021.

Snow.jpg

Tomorrow we are forecast to get 3-5 inches of snow...that is a Lot for us.

I will probably get out and ride around a bit in it. (no chemicals or salt are used on the roads I will be on).

It will be cold (for us), but should be fun!

Kevin, it seems like I remember you doing doughnuts in the snow, but cant find the the video. Maybe I was imagining that?

This is what I woke up to this morning!

The TG is in that building.

I know it will be some fun to get out and ride it...but it is so dadgum cold, I am being tempted to stay inside today.

SE Texas would be completely shut down with a mandatory Shelter In Place order if it looked like that here.

Yep, all the schools in North Mississippi are closed today.

We get snow so infrequently here, folks don't know how to drive in the snow, nor do we have the equipment to clear the roads.

Pretty much everything grinds to a halt.

Days like this Devin goes in his 4 wheel drive truck and picks up employees & drops them back off so that we are not closed down at the shop.

I went out for a 15 minute putt in the snow around the neighborhood!

Snow%20riding%201-10-25%20a.jpg

Did a bunch of donuts and power slides (did not take much power
:icon_laugh:
), generally just had some fun!

Snow%20riding%201-10-25%20b.jpg

Pulled back into the bike room, on top of a bunch of towels over the wood flooring. There's a lot of snow and ice that is going to be melting off over the next couple of hours.

BRRR! FN BRRR! I do want even want go out of the house to get the mail and it finally got up 30 here. God bless ya.

30 hours after my ride in the snow yesterday....

Still some snow in the front yard...but far more than 50% of it is gone-

30%20hours%20later%202.jpg

Even though I have it over 50 F in the bike room, it is still quite cold outside (for us) at a high of 38 F today-

30%20hours%20later%203.jpg

Most everything is gone here (see post of same shot from yesterday)-

30%20hours%20later%201.jpg

And, all the snow and ice that was in all the nooks and cranny's, these few little pieces are all that was left-

30%20hours%20later%204.jpg

We still have a lot more cold weather forecast for the next 2 weeks...far colder than we normally experience....but no more snow in the forecast as of right now.

Might want to seal that plywood floor Kevin?
Yeah, thought of putting an epoxy or some other sealant down AFTER I had moved a bunch of stuff in there over 10 years ago.

Fortunately, the plywood is pressure treated, and I did oil it when new.

Since I will be moving almost everything out when I replace the existing shelves with the cabinets and countertops, I will probably take advantage of that time to apply some sort of protective coating.

Any suggestions of what to use would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I almost did not go for that ride. Glad I did.

NOT happy about how cold it has been here for the last couple of weeks, and is forecast for the next couple of weeks. It is not supposed to be in the low 20's or high teens for weeks on end down our way!

Got an email from a friend yesterday.

It had this photo in it-

Broken%20Trans%20Dipstick.jpg

The "stick" part of the transmission dipstick broke off while in the transmission. 2020 Ultra.

He was doing maintenance and pulled it out, just like you see it above. The missing stick is still in the transmission!

I have never seen that before.

This is a quote from his dealership service manager said- "Seen it many times. Cheap pot metal."

Crazy! They are covering it under Extended warranty. Even if they can fish it out, they gotta inspect the tranny to see if there has been any damage to the components, and replace whatever needs replacing.

Kevin

Hadn't heard of a broken trans dipstick before. Great, something else I have to worry about. :)
Yeah, I had never seen it, or even heard of it, before. Not something I would worry about, it is not something that happens often.

In the very off chance that it would happen, I have extended warranty to cover any possible repairs.

It's a bit inexplicable. Why would it break? Vibration?

Kevin

Linoleum would be an inexpensive way to go or maybe vinyl plank flooring. Either would be easy to clean up spills and the like.

Mary and I have started discussing our riding plans for 2025.

Fortunately I can do much of my work from the road, so that gives us some flexibility in longer trips.

These are the things we want to do this year:

1. Ride around more of British Columbia, including Banff and the Icefield Parkway again.
2. Ride some of the great mountain roads in Washington State (we are open to suggestions)
3. Visit family in Northern California.
4. Trike Gathering in Arizona in the fall
5. Explore some of the Appalachian mountain roads in Virginia and North Carolina

Plans are in the very early stages, and may change up...but we have made a start. This promises to be a great year of riding and seeing some amazing sights.

You can see some of our past Ride Reports at this LINK.

A few photos from past rides!
