2018 Tri Glide

I traded my "14 for the "18 because of the color and just did a 2700 mile trip from Ohio to Texas. I new motor definitely has more power than the '14 and in my opinion runs quieter. The mufflers have a deeper tone than previous years. Everything else is the same.

Can't help with the TG but have the 107 on my Freewheeler.Love it.Runs way cooler than my '14 TC.At least that's my shortpants right leg perception.Smooth motor with plenty of torque.Had them all from the panhead to the M8.This is the best motor HD ever built.(OK-the Sportster is.) Take an M8 for a test ride if you havnt already done so.

What's your opinion of the 2018 Tri Glide with the 107 engine, any improvements, how is it compared to the 2014, thinking of trading.

The M8 has much more power then my 103 had, ...I would just keep a sharp eye on the transmission's oil level....

Yes, I test rode one and agree with all you stated.............thanks for the reply, checking to see if there are any known problems.

Is there a problem with the trans/oil level??

With my 17 Tri-Glide and many other M8 engines the oil from the transmission is going into the primary [chain case] And so far there is no viable fix... Do a search theres a lot of info on this...There is a short story about this on Page 5 May Motorcycle Consumer News Magazine...

I hear and read that a lot but IMO (did a demo on the m8 version) I didn't see it. Guess power is in the eye of the beholder. :) There has to be a lot more change than just the engine to make me want to spend the bucks for a new one, the 2018 looks identical to my 2014 other than colors.

The brakes are better, the primary is narrower giving you better foot placement on the boards, the clutch tho it is hydraulic seems to hook up better for power

The throttle body is bigger, fuel mileage in most cases is up

The cat converter on the exhaust is moved further back

I think saying many M8's have the problem is a stretch. I think it's a very small percentage.

It's nature for people to come online to complain/rant about problems. What if everyone with no problems came on & posted.

You may be able to find a new 2017 & find a dealer willing to deal & upgrade it to a 114. There are several in my area that will do it.

Oil cooled heads and or liquid cooled now also

More oil capacity for additional lube, bigger alternators, Better sounding stock exhaust to name some of the changes

The M8-engine TGU makes it power/torque at lower RPM's than the TC103. The M8 seems to makes its best torque between 2500-4000 RPM whereas the TC103 seems to make its torque between about 3000-4800 RPM. The M8 has a bit less intake noise at the air cleaner. The stock pipes as others have mentioned are a bit louder/throatier on the 2018 than the stock 2014. In the 6500 miles that I have been operating my 2017 M8 TGU, I have not noticed any appreciable differences in fuel mileage from the 2016 TC103 I rode for 15k miles but apparently others have seen some slight benefits.

stonecold over on the HD forum has identified the problem and has come up with a solution.Basically machining for a seal(s) in the clutch bearing housing 35260-06B. This cures the oil migration.HD of course will only sell him a limited quantity of housings so he takes your core to a machinist for the procedure.Cost is around $200.00 +- .Dont think this is a money making venture for him-probably lose his arse.Yeah I know what you're thinkin:"Why don't the MoCo contact him?"Surely you jest.

Indeed, since The MOCO will not take a clear stand on this 1

They would rather band aid it until it goes away, IMO it will NOT go away and will seriously affect new sales

There is a REAL problem here and it needs to be addressed no matter how much it costs

Can you imagine the law suit over a tranny that grenades?

I just cant imagine that but it could happen

Also, IMO they are covering up how BIG this problem really is

I hope Stonecold does have the fix and also hope he protects this fix with a copyright or a patent

WE all know how HD ends up on this one Wink Wink:p

The fact remains it's a warranty issue if you go fix it yourself ( and there's no guarantee that stonecold's fix work long term either ) You might as well kiss your warranty goodbye ! Harley should be fixing it not the individual owner ! 📞

You may be right on here

It would NOT shock me if HD had some one checking forums just because

It is obvious to me the Juneau Crew has NO real plan as of yet, so Why not hijack someone else s idea and claim it

I've been dealing with the MoCo for over 50 years .I think I've figured out thire business model:Step one-deny there is a problem.Step 2:come up with a fix that the aftermarket figured out and call it thires.Step 3: offer the retrofit under thire Screaming Chicken label to previous year owners (a la compensator) at owners cost. Hey that business model has worked for them for 100+ years. Why change it?

Without running the #'s that sounds like a good deal. What dealer if I may ask?

Appears to me your dealer treated you very well on the trade. Congrats. I think you'll enjoy the new ride.

+1 on dealing with Warhorse! A nice ride for me. And +++ congrats on the new ride... I went from the '14 to the '17 with the M8 and couldn't be happier. You got a good deal, and I'm sure you will too.
