I bought a used 2015 Triglide 12/26/22 at 28000 miles and now have 40,000 ( my wife and I live on Triglides)

I'm reaching out to those with "miles" on their 103 twin cam engines to ask how long I can run before inspecting things like primary chain shoe, cam tensioners, or anything else before I encounter engine damage? What about the roller lifters? Pistons/rings?

I'm running Mobil 1 20-50 and change the primary after every oil change at 2500 to 3000 miles. I have no clue what the former owner did for maintenance but the bike looked brand new when I bought it at 7-1/2 years old and 28000 miles.

I’m thinking that if you run it within the factory guidelines; that it should go a 100,000 miles.

IMO and from my (and several friends) experiences I’d say it’s a crap shoot as how long the items last before damage or failure. Now the 110” motors are definitely more prone to lifter failure but the 103s are not immune. I think changing out the lifters, inner cam bearings to Torrington full complement types and the chain tensioner shoe would be beneficial for many 000s more trouble free miles.

I traded in my 2011 103 just short of 50 thousand miles…Without any problems I just wanted to upgrade….And I changed the oil every 5 to 6 thousand miles…. in my opinion, I would just run it till something breaks and then get it fixed. Don’t dwell on it too much…

I have to agree, I put WELL OVER 100 thou. miles on mine with just routine maintenance.

Did I rebuild it Yes but its a gasoline engine, take care of it and it will last.

BTW-it was a VERY DEPENDABLE engine and I enjoyed it!

I was at a friends shop today and he had just completed repairs on a twin cam bike some where around2008-2010 96 cu in. 80,000 miles. Replaced almost everything on it clutch, primary chain, compensator, rebored cylinders to 103's, new cam, Fueling Cam Plate, Oil pump, new camchain, lifters, new brakes, new rear shocks, rebuilt front shocks, front seals new steering head bearings, Drive belt new starter. Primary chain tensioner had groves about 1/16 inch in the shoe, and the cam chain was almost cut completely through the shoe. Total cost of the rebuild was just over $10K
