2013 security system

Has anybody disabled security system to stop battery drainage over a 2 week period. I generally keep mine with a battery tender plugged in but recently missed a good ride this past Sunday due to a blown fuse on pigtail for battery tender:mad::mad:. My 2011 Roadking can go months without killing battery so I'm guessing radio or alarm system is creating more current draw. Thoughts?

Never had an issue when using a battery tender, never had disabled a security system to save battery life.

When you park it .... put it in transport mode. This will disable the security system.

You've got a bigger problem than security system drain on your battery. I've left my bikes sit for months on end without a problem. AND no battery tender on 'em. Shut everything off and check for power drain on the battery with an OHM meter.

How old is your battery? Sounds like you have a dead cell that's killing the battery or something on that line. A good battery should last maybe 3-4 years with all the abuse it takes on a motorcycle. After that I consider you're riding on borrowed power.

Is your battery double grounded??

we have left our trikes 3 weeks unattended while visiting our Arizona house and they both started when we came home. May want to check the battery with a load tester. most places that sell batteries have them and will test freebie

Good Luck

To my knowledge there is no transport mode on 2013. That is a upgrade with the 2014 and the INFORMANT system.
I have disconnected security system while installing different accessories, and just followed the manual on correct way to disable.
I would think that by following the manual, disconnecting the battery and ensure battery has full charge, then reconnect it would clear the error. Not sure though never had the condition to try.

The 2013's definitely have a transport mode. Just used it on mine last month. Check your manual on how to enable it (page 116).

Thanks for the correction to my statement that I didn't think 2013 had transport mode. I just placed fob in trunk and locked the trailer.
So here is what I found from your advise pg 116

1. Turn the ignition switch to ignition.
2. Set the engine stop switch to off
3. With FOB within range, turn the ignition from "ignition" to "ACC"
4. Simultaneously press both the left and right turn signal switches. This must be done within 5 seconds if turning the ignition switch to ACC
5. After the turn signals flash once, turn the ignition switch to OFF and the module is armed
6. Confirmation: Turn signal blinks 3x when armed for one ignition cycle

To exit tp mode:

With fob present. turn the ign switch to ignition, set stop switch to run __________________

Yep, that's all there is to it. I know lots of people that didn't know about the transport mode and figured leaving the fob in the tour pak would work. They all had dead batteries when they arrived and tried to start the bike up again. Supposedly you can go about 20 miles or so without using the transport mode and all the flashing lights won't kill your battery.

By leaving the FOB in the tour pak we have put the trike in trailer night before leaving, traveled 14 hr, stayed over night did not touch the trike, traveled another 5 hr arrived at destination, took the trike out of the trailer and started right up. So must depend on battery condition. Or I should buy a lottery ticket. But from now on, I will be using this mode.
