2007 Trike Gearing

I am sure this is somewhere in the Harley thread but I am asking again.
I have an '07 Ultra with a Lehman conversion. The bike has the factory 6 speed. I admit that momma and I are in the plus size category, but this thing is a dog on take off. I have to over rev and slip the clutch to get going. I have been told that two wheelers are facing the same thing. Is first gear just too tall? Does anyone else exerience this? Is there a quick, easy, economical fix or do I have to consider spending some bucks?

Unfortunately there is no quick easy solution, the cheapest is switching the transmission sprocket to from the factory 32 tooth to a 30 tooth. The down side to the 30 tooth swap is your speedometer will be 5 mph off. The next solution is to swap the primary gearing to a 49 tooth made by Evolution Industries, the down side is cost and the need to change the primary ratio so your cruise control and 6th gear light will work.

Gearing on the '07 and '08 models was way too tall. Made it nigh on to impossible to cruise in 6th gear. This was changed in '09, gearing lowered a bit. For the Triglide, it was changed again, I think in '11.

Not that this helps your problem, but at least it confirms for you that it is not an issue just with you. In addition to the sprocket and gearing, it is imperative that you get a good tune on the bike, with a stage 1 air kit and mufflers...that will help a lot right there. My '08 was a real dog when I first got it, doing the tune, air box and mufflers made a very noticeable difference.

07-08 's also had a 66tooth rear sprocket, standard or "cush- drive" depending on the model. the 70 tooth will help also.

I had a 70 tooth on my 07 RK/Champion Conversion and it performed very nicely. I believe the 07 Police RK came with the 70 tooth.
