2005 only starts in neutral
by xfootdoc » Sat Jun 01, 2013 10:45 am

I have a 2005 Wing with 2010 Motor Trike conversion. Everything works fine except that it will not start unless in neutral. Had the kick stand switch checked and it was correctly disconnected. Have also sprayed the switch contacts. Should it start in any forward gear with clutch pulled? I have had trike for three years with no other problems. Could it be as simple as needing a new clutch switch. If so where is the best place to get one? Not the best mechanic but could easily replace a switch. Thanks.......Alan

Alan, I don't think you need a new switch but I'd bet the existing one is dirty. Part of my routine maintenance is to wash the two micro switches on each handlebar out really good with spray silicone. Even with the rubber boot in place they seem to get enough road dirt inside to cause problems eventually.

Just spread a few rags on your plastic and spray the bajeebers out of the inside of the switches. You can take them off but it's not necessary.

Hope that helps..

Have you checked your reverse switch too.
My trike wouldn't start last night in neutral.
Or any gear.
As I usually just engage the clutch and go about my business.
The switch although not engaged had I guess been sticking.
It caused me a bit of head scratching last night.

Yep, I had a 2008 Gold Wing 2-Wheeler, and the 2010 Gold Wing Trike that did this.....both times separating the reverse switch and cleaning cured the problem.....ThumbUp
