1800 Wing kits?

Hi all . I may buy a 1800 Wing sometime in the near future and wondered if any folks here have gone the "Do it Yourself " route by buying one of the vendor kits and putting together their own trike rather than utilizing a dealer to do the install. Other options are either buying a trike already done or as mentioned letting a dealer handle the work. For those who have gone the DIY route whose company did you use and were you satisfied with you final product? Would you do it again if needed?
Thanks in advance, Larry

I did not do my own, and I really believe the $1400.00 I spent on installation was the best 1400 bucks I spent this year. Besides, CSC will NOT permit anyone but authorized installers to install their kits.

You need to check with Stephen who is on these forums. He built a beautiful 1800 Roadsmith all by his self. Said it was fairly easy. Charley

Larry,
Knowing You and YOUR abilities, likes, goals etc. (and I do),,,
Roadsmith
Look no further and begin planning your winter installation project. ThumbUp

P.s. Glad to see and hear you are "up & running" and no worse for the wear.

P.p.s.... If it's a pre-owned turnkey you are looking for...Or, you forego the self-install priority... Well, you know the facts regarding the only proper direction to take in that respect. I'll leave it at that and you to your option exploration.

Does that mean that if you build one from scratch in your garage that they won't cover that one either?

I think I would be looking for a new insurance company it that's the case.....

New to fourm,I talked to my Insurance Co about building a trike from a kit. They will not insure it if it wasn't done by a certified dealer. So be sure to ckeck into that.

"In Vino veritas - und im bier gibt's auch etwas!" (An old German joke.)

Just as a side note - where the heck is Aequitas, KY??? Can't find it on a map anywhere!

Ich trinke nicht danke meine Freund.

Aequitas? It's where Truth & Resolve meet Action ThumbUp

P.s. Actually, an Un-Incorporated little Slice of By-Gone Americana situated on 43 acres in SW KY known Once Upon a Time as New Providence. On a Map? No Sir. Wouldn't have it any other way. Y'all come sit a spell some time. Be SURE to call ahead first-Trespassin and Interlopin ain't a crime down here... It's a prelude to Target Practice and a heck of a lot more fun than checkers.

I do not know if you could even register a built from Scratch trike in Conn, let alone insure it. BTW my insurance Company never asked who built mine. For the record mine was built at the DFT factory by the owner himself for his wife.

Interesting. My insurance company had me bring the trike to the office where photos were taken. I suppose that those got sent someplace for approval as it was a couple of days before I got a call back and they said "yes".

Every insurance company has different ways of doing business I guess.

I am quite mechanically inclined myself. But, personally, I wouldn't undertake something such as this. I would prefer to leave it to the folks that do it on a day to day basis and have a MUCH better working knowledge of exactly how everything goes together.

Is it a bit more expensive? Certainly. But they get paid for their knowledge. I don't. And I am happy to pay a little extra for that experience.

Good luck with whatever you decision is and, maybe sometime, we'll bump into one another at a rally someplace.
