The simple question is : What is the 'normal' range of oil temperatures for a 114 M8 air/oil cooled engine? (2022 Freewheeler if it makes any difference).
Now the background:
I went for a ride when the air temperature was 66°F. When I returned the dip stick oil gauge showed 182°F, but the oil cooler was not even warm.
I looked at the dip stick oil gauge instructions, and they showed below 159°F as considered 'cold', and above 160°F as warm/not cold. The instructions also showed that the gauge measured up to 310°F, when it would shut down at 310°F to save the electrics of the gauge.
What is the 'normal' oil temperature range for a 114 M8 engine, and at what temperature would the oil cooler kick in to assist with cooling the oil? I have looked at the service manual, but I could not find the answer to the two questions.
