103 Engine Performance Upgrades

I have a 2016 Tri-Glide Ultra and have been thinking about upgrading the engine. I called my nearest Harley Davidson dealer to talk to them about the Stage IV kits. I was told I could only upgrade to a Stage II kit due to the frame of my bike. My question is has anyone upgraded their 2016 Trike beyond Stage II if you have please let me know where I can get the parts.

Welcome to the forum!

You can do any upgrade on your TG that is available for the 2 wheel bikes. HD does not recommend above the Stage II for warranty issues. You can do it, but if you have a power train warranty claim, they may not honor it.

Before doing an upgrade, you may be surprised how much more power you can get out of your 2016 TG if you do a DK Performance Stage I Kit. Our Stage I bike regularly outrun Stage II bikes, and can stay pretty close to a Stage IV bike, at a fraction of the cost.

The other important thing to do, besides a Performance Stage I kit is to keep the heat down. Heat is a HUGE robber of power. Here is a REPORT on how to get the heat into the optimal range.

All Stage I Kits are NOT Created Equal.

Here is a REPORT on Stage I Kits.

Kevin,

Thanks for the response and information. What bothers me is that Screaming Eagle makes a Stage IV kit for the 103 engine and if Harley installs the kit will not void your warranty. When I inquired about the kit that is when I was told I could not install because of the frame. I think there are some other reasons for the response. I have started the Stage I conversion with 4" Krome Werks exhaust because of the sound. I will be purchasing one of your air filter kits in the near future. The question I have is in regards to the fuel upgrade. Can I install the Xied upgrade for my bike and install the FP 3 fuel pack together. I have read on another forum of bike owners doing this setup. I would love to hear your thoughts on the idea.

The only reason (which you will find very few, in any, HD personnel willing to discuss) is that the Twin Cam has a weak crankshaft. When you give it more power with the Stage IV, the weight of the TG "frame" will stress the crank more than it would on a 2 wheeled bike.

Thank you on the Air Cleaner, we appreciate your business, and I believe you will be happy with the Performance from whichever one you choose.

There are quite a few folks that have run one of the XiED products along with the FuelPak 1 & 2 with good results. However, the Fuel Pak 3 is a completely different animal, and there is NO need or benefit to run the FP3 and the XiED products together. It would just be a waste of money and accomplish nothing.

The FP3 is a very good tuner for Stock and Stage I upgrades. You can see more on it HERE.

If you ever anticipate going beyond a Stage I, then the Power Vision Tuner is the way to go, you can see more on it HERE.

For a stock or Stage I bike the XiED products are much better than the stock tune, and better than an HD download. Many folks are very happy with the improvement, and while you will get more out of a FP3 or Power Vision, the benefit per $ spent on the XiED makes it attractive. You can see more on them HERE.
