Thinking about a Freewheeler

I have been on three wheels for a long time mostly sidecars and most recently a Can Am F3S. I rode a friends heritage classic the other day and the Harley bug hit me. I can’t do 2 wheels as I have a weak leg and don’t trust myself to hold it up or push it around. Anyway long story short. I like the look of the FW and wonder if they are good to travel on? I have always had stripped down sport tour type bikes except for my ultra. I ride solo only. My only real must have is cruise control and a drink holder. Is buffering bad with the 20” windshield? I have had day long seats on my last few bikes and would do that again. Probably buy a sundowner while I wait. They are marking down the leftover 24’s here so I might pick one up this week.

If you haven't already- take one for a test ride. If you intend to pack a lady take her along also( buy the sissybar/ backrest and luggage rack at time of sale). 2 upgrades you should do immediately is Nextgen shocks and breather bypass. Then later an oil filter relocation kit. Check out DK Customs. Recommending a seat is like choosing a wife for someone else. But I like my Mustang touring seat which should answer your touring question. I like my Freedom Windshields recurve.

I have had 2 Tri Glides and 2 FW's. I prefer the FW to the Tri. As long as you are doing solo riding I think you will enjoy it. As previously suggested go to a dealer and demo ride one. The newer models have low profile tires and don't seem to ride as well and older versions.
Buying a low mileage used trike will save you money, if you don't absolutely have to have new.

Ok looking at used and new, whatever is the best deal will be the one. I had not read about a rougher ride for the larger wheels and low profile tires

You will have to try different windshields to find tne perfect combo. Take a look at the Road Glide III. If you insist on the FW Memphis shades makes some curved shields. Look at freedom shields and Longride shields
So many choices about windshields and Memphis shades batwing fairing …hard part is figuring out which will work best 4 you!

Looks like long ride and freedom are just the plastics. I need to buy a frame anyway. That right? I need to see if Memphis makes them with black hardware since chances are I buy a blacked out bike

pretty sure I don’t want a fairing. And seems like the HD 20” shield is the only one with a black frame .

Harley sells a black frame 16”, 17” and I think a black 20”

after a long and expensive search to stop wind buffering on my ears I ended up with the fangs and they solved my problem.
Same here! I already had a tank lift and a recurve shield. Once I added the fangs, all the buffeting was gone. Some folks say they raise temperatures by 20-25° but I found less than a 10° increase. JES fangs for the Freewheeler are shorter than some for other bikes. That may be the reason for the temperature discrepancy. I run mine year round and have no concerns.

If I add lowers will it interfere with them.
