Did all hd dealers stop selling those little 1 or 2 oz. fuel booster etc packs?
The two dealers near me don't have them. I always found them handy if you needed to run reg bc being off the beaten path. Some were little bottles and some were little bladders.

If your Harley needs hi-test fuel and it isn't available (like out in a desert town with only regular at the pump), Walmart sells a variety of octane boosters for probably less than a bottle from a "motor company" store.

Hi-test gas is used in engines with higher compression so the air/fuel mix doesn't pre-detonate and actually is not good for engines designed to run on regular (87 octane) fuel especially those where you can't change the ignition curve.

I only run Magnum Hy-Test in my motors. But it can only be found in one place,at one filling station, along one stretch of highway...only in the Twilight Zone.Tell Nan I sent you.

Spending your money for hi test when your engine only requires regular accomplishes what? Other than keeping your valves a little cleaner because of the extra detergent, high octane gaso. is not going to improve performance in the slightest contrary to what some think.

Other than that hd book says run 91 octane. I ran reg in my old 05 heritage and it survived 140k mi.
I agree though, gas is gas.

the Duralt boosts the octane, after over 2000 miles I pulled all 4 plugs & they were nice & clean.

I almost always run 91 or higher. I have the "fuel rewards" app plus it is linked to my Shell gas card. I don't save a bunch but every fill up at Shell is at least .15 off per gallon. Once and a while after eating at certain linked reward restaurants I earn another .30 off per gallon. I also have the 7/11 app and generally get .10 or more off a gallon at those stations.

I carry a couple small yellow bottles of octane boost in my fender saddlebags (Walmart). It doesn't happen too often but every once and awhile if we hit a remote station that I suspect doesn't sell much high octane gas I will pump 87 and add the boost. A few years ago, when gas prices spiked, we were traveling through Texas I got some old/bad 93 octane gas at a small remote station and learned my lesson.
