Got my last set at o'reilly crossed them over to champion and they were cheap. You do know that Harley doesnt make spark plugs
Interesting though right after I sold the glide classic and got the freewheeler I found I had a brand new set of H/D plugs in the tool chest . Duh !

Not everybody’s cup of tea, but I put a set of NGK Iridium’s CR9EIX in when I did the engine upgrades. Amazon has a set of 4 for $35.19.

I've noticed plugs going up considerably.I was just havibg a discussion with a coworker about what a particular plug used to cost when it was my responsibility to buy them for stock. It's also hard for me to realize that was 20 yrs ago.

They claim there is counterfeit name brand spark plugs on EBAY & Amazon that are junk , From what I read they do not produce enough spark, juice, volts what ever. the video I seen they look almost exact but side by side they are not. I can not post videos or pictures.

NGK is one of the big ones being counterfeited and being sold on eBay and Amazon. I know there are others as well. Here is a guide posted on NGK's site to help identify them. And the fake ones are getting better and harder to identify including the packaging. Here is the info on the NGL site.

Last year, I bought some NGK plugs off Amazon for my daughters car because they were cheaper than I could find locally so I took the gamble. I had heard about the counterfeits already. There were a couple things that seemed off. I contacted Niterra and they mentioned too that the counterfeits are getting harder to identify. They had me take specific photos of the spark plugs and email them for them to identify. They verified the plugs I bought were legit so I installed them.

Outrageous costs have been around for a while.

Back in the 70's I flew fire patrol and was around air tankers as my moonlight job. Also had my own airplane. Plugs for the AC were $20 each back then. I had to change out an alternator, that cost $800 for a cheesy Chrysler one because it had airplane stamped on the box.

FYI if interested: The DC 6 tanker had 144 plugs installed. It also carried 37 gal of oil (if remember correctly) per engine, burned roughly 80 to 100 gal / hr at cruise power for each engine (there were 4). Oil consumption could reach about 5 to 8 gal / hr per engine depending on its condition. It carried a 200 gal auxiliary oil tank just in case.

Last week I went to Dennis Kirk’s site because he had a good price on some side pieces for my Goldwing. To meet their $89 Free Shipping policy I decided on some NGK’s for my 2 wheel GL1800 and bought 6 plugs for $2.78 each. A very good price I thought for what some places sell them. Now I’m hoping they aren’t counterfeit!

I don’t think they are counterfeiting the standard plugs, mainly the higher dollar NGK Iridium’s. And the counterfeit ones are mainly showing up on Amazon and EBay from what I can tell.

I did pull a plug to look to see if the Iridium’s I ordered off of Amazon last year were counterfeit and they are not.

Having said that, I WON’T be buying any more spark plugs online from Amazon or EBay.

If you buy from a reputable dealer web site, you are at almost 0% for getting a counterfeit. They don't want to bring that kind of heat on themselves. Not saying it won't happen but it's a very slight chance. On eBay or Amazon, you could be buying from almost anyone and they can disappear quickly.
