Broken shock bolt

I have a 2017 triglide which I upgraded to pro action rear shocks and lift kit from DK Customs about 3 years ago. Coming home from a ride I heard a loud noise in the back and the bike started riding rough. I limped home and discovered the top shock mounting bolt on the right side had busted off, leaving the threads flush to the surface of the mounting bracket. I had to remove the entire body to access the broken bolt. I tried using a bolt extractor without success, and finally drilled the bolt out and retapped the threads and got a new bolt installed. Now have to reassemble. I have no idea why the bolt broke. Has anyone else experienced a problem like this?

Hey John, Welcome to Trike Talk👍👍.. as far as the broken bolt goes sometimes you just leave it to shit happens? ..

Hi John, :welcome: to Trike Talk and your first post

Bolts break for many reasons

When it comes to suspension and brakes I like to use new bolts and either thread locker or antisieze

:welcome:John ,

All I can tell ya is when I upgraded mine , both top bolts were a bear getting out . It looked like a whole tube of lock tite was used on them . Even after I cleaned up the bolt threads and neversized them , they were still real tuff to get back in . I hope they didn’t stretch/weaken on the reassemble .
