Dave..Welcome to Trike Talk….

I had a 2011 Triglide and yes it does get hot but it never seems to affect me …If I remember correctly there was some posts a while ago where a shorter rider would get too close to the air cleaner… Floor board extenders from DK customs a sponsor here might solve the problem..

Bare leg (wearing shorts) or covered leg wearing blue jeans or other leg covering?

Do you have the lower faring vents open? That will help with the cooling of the filter area.

I second the floorboard extensions from DK , they move your feet/ legs out about an inch thus reducing the felt heat. A DK tank lift and cooling wings are also a suggestion( low cost) . Changing out your exhaust and going with Stage 1 and tune would help but is more costly

tank lift kit, (went for the Deluxe option) and floorboard extenders just arrived, I'll be installing them tomorrow, my wife insists they aren't going to make any difference, I'm hoping to prove her wrong

When you are you dealing with the wife? You have a 50-50 chance of being right with a 90% probability you’re wrong…😁..

But all kidding aside the floorboard extenders work

👍

floorboard extensions and tank lift installed, time for a test ride

made a good bit of difference, but it's still a little too hot, can I put some insulation tape on the inside of the air cleaner cover, or would that cause trouble?

Don’t quite know where you’re going with that tape on the inside of the air cleaner?? If the tapes should come loose, it will get sucked into the throttle-body then you’ll have more problems than just heat….. I don’t think he can ever eliminate the heat. In fact I know you can’t … you have to remember your on a motorcycle. You don’t have a firewall to protect you like in a car you’re sitting on a heat pump.,(Engine)..

Dave - can you tell us more about your trike? Is it stock or does it have aftermarket exhaust, engine mods, etc? My twin cam ran really hot also. The only solution I found was adding a tuner. They run way too lean from the factory especially with engine mods thrown into the mix.

its all stock, I thought about getting a K&N air cleaner for it

An aftermarket air filter that flows better will likely make it run hotter. It is the nature of twin cam stock tunes. My suggestion is to try an oil cooler. If that doesn’t help then a tuner is your next option. Both will let you add an air filter and exhaust, or cams…

I like the Ventilator air cleaner, there are other similar ones as well, look at Fuelmoto and DK Customs and Harley-Davidson websites. I run a Ventilator, I like the looks. More flow will help cool it a bit.

If the heat is coming off the exhaust pipe , DEI makes an insulating wrap that goes under the heat shield and helps. I did miss me on my 21 and the heat shields are much much cooler!

put exhaust wrap on yesterday, went to start it and the battery was dead, charged it for 2 hours, still dead, off to Orelllys to get a new battery, battery is dated 6-12-20 so I guess 4 years out of it aint bad

There are several companies that make air cleaners that are more low profile that may help. Does your air cleaner still have the heads venting into them, that could be a source of heat. A freer flowing air cleaner will keep the cover somewhat cooler.
