2012 Big Blue & Black

TheBobs

Well, there I was, walking through the front door of my HD dealer, to pick up my valve stem extender everyone is getting for their air shocks. Right inside the door, they have a brand new sparkly clean Big Blue & Black. The blue/black combo reminds me of the 2004 SE Electra Glide I wanted so bad, but couldn't find in California. So anyway, I slowed down to take a look. No problem. Went up and grabbed my valve stem thingy from the counter, chatted a bit, then said my good-byes and headed out. On my way out, I gotta go right by this same blue/black triglide except this time I get to look at it for about 20 feet or so. Of course the overhead lights hit the metalic paint "juuuuust right" and I stopped dead in my tracks, turned around and hunted down the owner. I said, "Why did you have to put that triglide by the door, you're killin' me." After a bit of a laugh, I asked how a red 2010 TG would fare in the used inventory and she said very well. So we talked a little bit more and reached a deal. They took very good care of me on this one!!!

They also switched my most valuable add-ons from my 2010 to my 2012. They pulled and returned my MCHitch and associated plug and play 4-pin wire harness to me. I'm trying to see if MCHitch will sell me the pieces that make it fit the 2012. Crossing my fingers on that one, otherwise I got one for sale!
One thing I learned on the way home was if I had done the 30T sprocket first on my 2010, I probably never would have installed the SE-255s. Even with the 2010 dyno tuned, the stock 2012 gearing and cam "feel" close enough that a replacing the cams wouldn't be cost effective. Plus I should be back to running comfortably on 91 octane again. I ran stock mufflers on the 2010 so that was a wash between the two trikes.
I'll be installing the valve stem extender (LOL, imagine that!), and Dennis' baffle and deflectors. Have to get a new lift kit. I REALLY MISS THAT LIFT KIT!!!!! I didn't realize just how much better the triglide handles the curves with the lifts installed. I do now! One more thing. It really stunk not having the deflectors and baffle for the ride home. The buffeting was nuts!
Pix to follow when the sun decides to come back out.

AHHH!!!!!!!!!! Another one bits the dust. CONGRATS on the purchase. I too love the Blue and Black combination, but I built my own. Happy riding

They put it close to the door because they knew someone would be sucked in:D Looks like it worked:laugh: Congrats on the new ride.

CONGRATULATIONS on your new baby!!!! ThumbUpThumbUpThumbUp

Something similar almost happened to me when I brought in my Valk trike for service. But I'm still holding fast, lol.

Congrats! I'm with you on the sprocket.I have an 2011 triglide,& it has enough low end for me.Yours is a good looking color combo! enjoy

CONGRATULATIONS!!! (that HD shop does some smart marketing :D)
When I went back up later that same afternoon, they already had mine in the shop ready to swap parts, and a new Ember Red/Merlot '12 sitting in the same spot. Back in the shop they had a Black '12 ready to follow.
I now have permission to enter through the shop until 2014 :Trike1:

man!! where the pictures? i might have to have mine painted.

I have to install Dennis' powder coated deflectors and baffle. And the sun is just now peaking over the Sierra Nevada. It's also nasty overcast, so I'll have to take some pix once this storm passes through, because it reacts with sunlight like the Redhot Sunglow does. It's almost like two different colors. Hard to see the difference between the blue and the black in dim light, but in the sun, there's no mistake where the blue is.

In another thread I suspected I'd feel this way. Now I know for sure that the benefit of switching cams won't outweigh the cost as I have to have the shop do it for me. But if I lived closer to Ohio............. Who knows:D

So true, so true, M3. Wasn't sure what that tug was when I was leaving the parts counter then, but realize now it was just owner setting the hook. Well, at least I can enter the dealership through the shop for a couple years.

Saw that same color scheme at the dealer about 5 months ago very nice. He made sure to push it outside in the sun (the big blue pearl really stands out in the sun).

Went back about 3 months later (they were on their 3 one of that color in that time) and found out they also had the red ember sunglo/merlot and decided on that one as a friend has that in an Ultra Classic Limited (also looks great in the sun).

I think Harley has out done themselves with both color schemes this year.

Nice looking ride, enjoy.

Here's a couple pix. One shot with cloud cover and the other a few minutes later in bright sunlight.

And one for Dennis, showing the powder coated deflectors. The baffle is on there too. You are going to have to look real hard to find it on any of the 5 pix I just posted. See if you can;)

Hey Dennis, I like the powder coat. The fact that they are subdued compared to chrome is really cool and for me I want the attention drawn elsewhere.:10:

Congratulations! Like you, I have a nice new 2012 TriGlide sitting in the garage just waiting on the Spring weather to arrive.

Can you tell us more about the baffle?

And here it is all tucked in nice and neat. Would have been a showstopper if I couldn't have the FM headpipe on my '12.

There should be a good description on the triglidestuff.com site

I originally modified a tripletree baffle by tackwelding a 2" extension to drop it below the stabilzer. What Dennis has done through a ton of road testing is to go in front of the stabilizer and behind the brake lines. That's actually the best place to put a baffle. The airflow over the tank is knocked down by about 90-95% when you use the baffle with the deflectors. If you get high frequency buffeting bad enough to vibrate your vision, this is where the air comes from. The air over the top of the windshield is relatively smooth. Everything is exacerbated by following an SUV or bigrig truck. So if you try to beat the buffeting by putting a taller windshield, you just make a stronger low pressure region, thus pulling even more air over the tank. The deflectors and baffle just make the air go around the side of the tank about where the top of the lower fairing is and your knee.

Nothing to really do about that area anyway.

Hope this helps and if I didn't get it right, I'm pretty sure that Dennis will ring in and correct me.

TG Looks real good, a little low in rear:D

I will get a set of brackets on their way Monday for it.

Glad the baffle and wings are working out for you. Keep me informed as you put some miles on them. Also, while you are running at speed, reach down and just crack open the adjustable vents on faring, you will find now that it will throw more air away from chest and face area.

That DAY LONG seat looks real good.

I also see you changed over your wide and tall windshield. After seeing that on your 10, I started running one also, like it very well.

That windshield is a Clark's Custom 13" square top light tint. I was going to get a 14", but I have the deflectors now and the 13 is big enough!

Love the trike! Those dealers are up to something. They put those trikes right next to the door so you're snagged right away. I know because the trike shop did it to me twice. My husband refuses to take me to Daytona anymore because he's afraid they'll do it again!

Hey Bobs!!! I can relate to you making the change. I got my '11 in May last year... Cool Blue Pearl...In July, I walked in there and they had a '12 with the Big Blue and Black sittin' there. I almost cried like a little girl!! I asked Mr salesman why he didnt tell me that was coming out..I woulda waited!! His answer of course was we can sure make you a deal on a trade in. Now that I have put over $10 grand into mine, I will keep it. But I sure do prefer that Big Blue over my Cool Blue. I am envious... Congrats Man!!!!

Hey Mr Bobs...Would you tell us exactly which windshield that is? I want one!!...Thanks!!!!!!!!!
Trent, here's a closeup of the one I have. Mine is light bronze tint.

Here's the site. Besides the flat top I have, they also have a half moon design that is just as wide. I do like the extra protection for my shoulders and hands. Just enough to feel a difference.

What helped me was the fact that they transferred nearly all of my stuff. I am still out the cost of the TTS, A/C and Cams, but I'll get over it.

Yeah I love the highlights on our 2011 merlot and black but that blue I saw in the showroom Saturday sure turned Both my wires and my eyeballs around. Wait till ya get it out in the full sun and can get a real good look at it. Congrats.
