Came across a thread in the forum about changing out air cleaner covers to gain more performance, fuel mileage, etc. It got me to thinking about the factory "ram air" style of air cleaner found stock on my 2021 114cui Freewheeler. I really like the way it looks, heck I like the way everything on the bike looks, but what happens if I get caught in a rain storm? Won't that forward facing opening suck in a lot of water?

I have a K&N filter with the same cover. Never had any rain issue . If it’s raining that hard to be concerned , it’s time to look for a overpass .

You can run a better air filter and backing plate with out any problems and still keep your original outer cover

Contact D K Customs about an Outlaw air cleaner upgrade

I ran one on my 17 Freewheeler, ( I rode thru the back side of a tropical storm with drenching rains without any issues

Read here, the 606 should work for you

As has been stated, the rain is not going to be an issue.

Regarding your posts about gaining more performance with a different cover...

It is more the OEM backplate than the cover that affects performance. Also, the feeding of the crankcase air into the intake.

Below is a video explaining why the OEM backplates are the way they are, and how they reduce performance.
