Train Wreck

A couple of "Rail Fanners" caught this low speed incident on video.

The real action starts about 3 plus minutes into the video.

Luckily, nobody was injured.

I Missed it Dave......I fell asleep at 3:17.....:D.....What happened.

Whatever the lever was that the engineer flipped, could that have caused the problem as it looked like he was having a problem getting it to latch. :xzqxz:

I think the person(s) filming this caused it....possibly the persons at the very end of the video. Why else would they be there filming a s-l-o-w, routine function. It’s as if they were waiting for it....

I had no idea until a few minutes ago that there are a large number of Railfans throughout the world. These people are as passionate about trains as we are about trikes. They have their forums and even a dating site.

According to the news report on the accident shown above, it was caused because

"the conductor did not lock the switch".

Have to say it sure didn't look like the switch "locked" as he stepped on it a few times. Does it "lock" automatically or does he have to reach down and "lock" it? I've never moved one so have no idea.

My neighbor next door is a tracker for Metro North. I showed it to him. He noticed that the switch man never looked or removed any track rocks from the transfer rail. If the rails are not touching together smoothly , disaster will happen. Also the handle will not lock if any rocks are in the way. In anyway, someone’s in deep caaah caaah !
