Yep, they started putting a bar in the frame that block those holes in the cross-member.

What some hitch set-ups do to get around that is use a pinch/clamp on the rear cross-member.

Here's a photo where you can see the bar sitting in that cross-member.

So what's the purpose of the bar Kevin? Added strength and rigidity or just to preclude hitch attachment as before?

Being Harley under certain conditions will void a warrteny when a trailer hitch is installed.. That is a likely reason for the bar...:Shrug:

The mothership finding a trailer hitch with or without an actual trailer attached will most definitely result in denial of warranty coverage for engine and drive train. I pulled a Bushtec trailer for fifteen years with my various two wheeled Harleys and this issue has come to the forefront more and more. No way I'd bring any motorcycle in for warranty or ESP service with a trailer hitch attached. Just sayin'.

I put a Kuryakan hitch on my 17 straight forward install no issues.

Put a Rivco hitch on my 14 TG and had no problem matching up mounting holes with those on the trike. The bar you're referring to is on the rear frame member and did not block the holes that were there, in fact, I had to remove the torx screws that were in the holes in order to mount my hitch.

Can't swear it's true, but my dealer's service mgr. told me that bar was added to bring the TriGlide up to weight specs to meet some federal requirement.

There are two Torx screws just inboard of the mufflers. With those screws out, the Rivco mounting matches up directly with the holes. ThumbUp

I do not know why it is there, never seen any official word from MoCo. Have heard it is for extra rigidity, hitch prevention (which doesn't really work), not until the thread did I hear it was for extra weight.

I know there a thousands of Trikes out there without it, and I've never heard of one of them having an issue with the frame...so it does not appear that it is needed for strength.
