'09 tri Glide loud bang on start-up

last w45 oz. oil in it. . is the stock running position of the chain suppose to be taught? . i didn't see and dmage to the eek was about a hour away from home, and when i started the trike i heard a loud bank. restart ok & drove home. the primary chain rattles; so i removed the cover and i have just over 1/2" travel up with stock -adjuster. 36k on bike, never hot-rodded. so i closed it up & put 45 oz. of oil in it. bike runs on; but does make more noise than normal. is the chain suppose to run taught?

Sounds like you need to have the compensator checked out. The load bang is symptom of a worn one.

:Agree: I would recommend if it is the stock comp to not buy the Harley Compensator unless you have a warranty. They are crap in my book. Even the new version is junk.

Take the comp apart and check for rust and fretting.
