Well it finally happened. First accident in 15 years so I guess I have been blessed.

FW in shop with 3 K front end damage. Parts & Labor.

Rear ended a truck with a non licensed driver operating the vehicle. No tags . Left the scene before state trooper arrived. Nothing to be done except have my insurance cover the damage. Police are looking for the other driver but I'm not expecting much if anything. This is MT. He might get a ticket if they can find him but its doubtful.

Waiting for parts so repair can be completed. I have been warned by my insurance adjuster that painted parts take a long time to acquire. I am guessing I will see the trike sometime next year. Not sure . Frame not bent in collision. Just looking at a new front end.

Seeing the doctor for my post accident med checkup tomorrow. Sore and beat up with a concussion and some very sore muscles in my left leg.

Trike stayed straight and true during crash and back end stayed down. I did not even come off my seat when I hit . I am hurt but was very impressed overall with how the trike took the hit and managed the crash. These things are built very well. Wish the body repairs on me were as easy. Be safe out there. Lots of uninsured, unlicensed, distracted, texting etc drivers. And no I was not tailgating . Had I been I would have been hurt much worse in the accident. Be safe . See everyone on the road soon.

Bike can be fixed. Nothing else matters as long as your ok and weren't injured worse. Story may have been different on a two wheeler..

As others said, bike can be fixed and will be. Main thing is you will ride again. Hope you are riding again soon.

Wow, definitely could have been worse, glad you're just a little banged up and nothing worse although a concussion is important.

Thanks everyone. I am still in a lot of pain and waiting on my P.T. prescription to come through. I have reached my cap for the year on it so won't be able to get at it until January 5th. The driver was a mentally retarded individual that had the mindset of a 12 year old. I really have mixed feelings about it all. Yeah I'm glad it happened on 3 wheels instead of 2.

Had I been on my dyna I very well might have been in the morgue instead of the E.R. Trike will get fixed and I will heal up though it might take a minute. Thank you so much for the well wishes and get wells.

I will be riding again as soon as I can. Already can't wait to be riding again. I think my doctor thinks I'm nuts for riding . He told me I should listen to " Vincent Black Shadow 1952 " . Good guy though . He also rides some. Appreciate the encouragement. Been a bit rough some days.

cracked up

Sorry about your accident. How did it happen. here in Canada 99 percent of the time if someone runs into the back end of a vehicle they are usually the one that get charged as being at fault and the front vehicle almost always claims whiplash. I don't know how it works in montana so I am just curious as I ride in Montana often

That's how it works here in California too, in most cases, but not all.

Some years ago when I was young and dumb I got hit from behind while driving on the freeway late at night. The statement from the people in the car that hit me (and I quote here from the Police report) The passenger looked up and saw me in the lane ahead and yelled "look out, car".The driver then........'looked up' and was unable to avoid hitting me dead center. On it's face and in most circumstances it would be clear that the driver was not paying attention and at fault. But......I had been drinking  so I was charged as causing the accident, got a DUI and had to pay for all of their medical bills and car repairs as well as my own. Don't drink and drive. I am now over 20 years clean and sober.

You still haven't posted what what caused the accident. you said you weren't tail gating.
I am glad you didnt get hurt real bad. Trike can be fixed

In answer to a couple of questions from members here:

what caused the accident was a mentally impaired young man who was driving without a license who accelerated into traffic and then just stopped in the middle of the road trying to decide whether to turn or keep going . Happened so fast I barely had time to hit the front brake and did not have time to hit the rear before I collided with his vehicle.

After talking with my insurance representative basically if you hit anyone from behind no matter the reason you will be blamed . Does not matter if the driver of the other vehicle has no license , stolen vehicle , no insurance whatever etc. To my knowledge Virginia is the only state that has a different approach to this . I could easily be wrong about that however.

The state trooper that came to the scene did not issue me a ticket. But my insurance ended up footing the bill anyway. Thank God for uninsured motorist coverage.

I never heard whether they found the other driver or not.

No reason to worry about it.

Been busy healing up and keeping up on trikes repair progress. Anywhere from 3 to 8 weeks estimate depending on how long parts take to come in. At least it will be fixed like new. Winter is coming here in MT. anyway. Probably have snow by end of OCT.

thanks for the concern and well wishes. ill be back on the road by spring. Lord willing and the creek don't rise.........

Its the same here in MT.

same in Florida unless you have a witness that can say the front car cutoff the rear car.

Delay confirmed

Sure glad to hear that you're OK. As everyone has said, the bike can be fixed. Speaking from personal experience painted parts take an awfully long time to get. Our TriGlide was involved in a collision some time ago. 15k worth of damage - almost all painted parts replaced, except for the side covers and the Tour-Pak. It took 11 weeks before we got the bike back. Hopefully it won't take that long for your bike. So try to relax and make the best of your Montana winter.

Thanks for the encouragement.

I have the bike done now, its at the dealer in Missoula . It actually looks better than it did new.

They really detailed it out and put all new parts on the front end . Both cosmetic and functional.

They said if they could not make the bike like new id be getting a new one instead. Well they did it and i'm super impressed. Now I am waiting to get into Physical therapy on January 5th. Messed up my left leg really good and can barely walk. Put weight on the leg etc. Been a long winter on the cane . We shall see what the spring brings. Might be a minute before I can ride again.

I appreciate the kind words. Been a rough fall / winter for my family.

P.S. My cousin in Roulette almost got her house blown away by a tornado. Came within an 1/4 of a mile. Hope your safe and ok down there with the storms.

Somehow I missed this thread.

Good to hear they got your Trike fixed up.

Just a few more days for PT. Unfortunately, it's probably gonna hurt, but it should help!

Hope your back riding by the time the snow melts! :)

Kevin

Thanks Kevin:

The trike is actually great.

They did a fantastic job with repair. Looks and rides brand new.

Now I'm working on healing my body up. I messed up my leg up pretty good.

P.T. will probably be miserable but I'm not sure it will be any worse then the day to day at this point. Appreciate the comments and concern. Id settle for walking by the time the snow melts but if I could be riding that would be fantastic.

I understand the miserable part. Took over a month of PT before I could start to walk with a cane...and every minute of it hurt. :xzqxz:

But a few days after I was walking with the cane I took a little ride around the block.

It was great! Then a couple of weeks later I took my first real ride in over 5 months! Had my cane bungied to the sissy bar. :)

Riding was easy...getting on and off the bike was the hard part.

Hoping you heal up quick and are able to get back in the wind!

We're located in Weatherford, a bit west of the Metroplex and fortunately were not near the tornadoes.

In May of 1999 we visited Montana and stayed at Alta Ranch, about 40 miles SSW of Darby. Some roads were still closed due to snow, so I can just imagine how limited your riding season must be.

So just take your time healing up so you'll be ready to do some Freewheelin'. Be well and be safe.

missedem,

How's the PT going?

Kevin

Kevin: thanks for asking. Been brutal and pretty excruciating however after 3 appointments I had my first mostly pain free day since the accident after the P.T. appointment. I have had a pain flair up since and am trying to stay positive , progress is slow. Now that the pain in the hip is slowing down some. Back pain is really up. Seems the hip pain was masking some of the other trouble spots. I have until mid March before the insurance runs out of P.T. appointments for the year so we shall see how I am doing by then. One things for sure I am updating my medical coverage on the bike insurance and hoping to never need it again.

I am looking forward to riding again. Wonder sometimes if two wheels would be better on my back but i've made the investment for the FLRT. Id take a beating if I sold it or traded it off. I am thinking I should use your comfort lift and see if that helps. Hear good things about it. Probably going to put taller bars on as well. Though Ill have to save up for that one. Labor on a handlebar replacement is pretty steep. Take care , ride safe and keep the shiny side up. I truly appreciate the kind words, encouragement and concern.

Here's hoping the PT gets everything back how it should be!

6 years later I still do some of the PT exercises to ward of the chronic pain that rears up. It really helps me.

Yeah, the comfort lift, dialing in the air pressure and running the rear tires at 20-22 psi will get it smoothed out a lot. Also an airhawk will help some. Sitting/riding on my TG is literally the most comfortable "chair" I have, even more than my $200 office chair!

Yeah than handlebars can get expensive...wire extensions, hydraulic lines and Throttle by Wire module.

Keep at it man, sounds like it's already getting better!
