Yes Liberty Mutual just canceled me because I converted my bike into a Trike! First they said to fax in the company that did the work and how much it cost to covert. I had to wait 5 days for it to process, today they said that they don't cover three wheeled motorcycles. What the hell is going on? I make my bike safer and now I cant get insurance when I used a factory (Hannigan) to covert. Any help on what company covers trikes?

As I stated in an earlier post on another discussion, it will depend on what state you live in as to who covers trikes and how they decide to do it. There is no "one size fits all" when it comes to this issue.

We have Progressive on all our vehicles. When we owned our Boss Hoss, they blew away everyone else with their rates @ $270/year. We paid $357 this year on our 2011 Street Glide bike and after it was converted, that rate has jumped to $611/yr w/$20K accessory coverage.
Progressive sent a representative to look over our trike and take photos. We're definitely going to talk to our agent and other insurance companies to try to come up with a better rate.

I just converted my Goldwing to a Trike and was concerned about finding coverage for it but Progressive came through with no problem. They were insuring my Goldwing before the conversion so when I told them I had it converted to a trike, they said that was not a problem. Progressive considered the conversion as an accessory and covered it for an additional $10.00 per month. I pay $50.00 a month for the 2007 Goldwing with Champion Trike kit if that helps. This is a rate in northern California so your rates may be different.

I have Progressive and insuring Trikes is NO problem with them. They are very competitive.
Geico sends me letters all the time asking me to let them quote insuring my Trike but I have not pursued a quote as I am satisfied with Progressive.

I have my Home, Autos, and Life insurance with State Farm and they will insure the Trike but was not competitive. The premium was almost double compared to Progressive for same coverage.

I tried to insure with Liberty Mutual as I already had 4 vehicles with them, had been a customer for almost 30 years but they said they don't insure trikes that are conversions. Factory trikes are OK but no conversions. I then tried Dairyland insurance who was recommended by Hannigan but they don't write in Massachusetts. Called Geico, got better coverage for less than half what Liberty Mutual charges for my two wheeler and then switched my two wheeler to them for an even better (multi vehicle) discount. So now I have my trike and my bike insured with better coverage for about the same amount as just my bike was costing me with Liberty Mutual. I'll be switching the family's cars over next month.

AllState covers me at a very reasonable rate. Florida

I have Allstate for my cars and 2 wheel bike but last July when I got mine converted I called and waited 2+ weeks for my agent to get back with me due to corporate not giving him a straight answer on coverage. I ended up going with Progressive. He did get back with me with a "Yes" but it was too late, I needed coverage before picking it up.

For the life of me cannot figure out why there is such a question of coverage. It's not like we build these bikes out of beer cans in our garage. At this point they should be clearly listed as an option when selecting coverage. "Is it a car, boat, truck, 2 wheel motorcycle, 3 wheel trike (Factory or conversion), etc." Sounds so easy.

You would expect this if government is involved.

I have Progressive look them up online they have one for trikes

I was told by Progressive that selecting "Trike" on there web page for a quote is only for Factory built trikes not conversions.

I had Liberty on and off since I first got my drivers license (1974) and my home for 31 years. Then they out of the blue dropped my Homeowners policy because they were limiting there exposure in Florida. Needless to say they lost ALL my business.

Ive got Allstate at a very reasonable rate. They now have a listing for trikes for their insurance. But years ago one of the questions the agent asked me was whether the factory did the conversion or if I had done it myself. I would guess that with some insurance companies self install is a liability they arent looking to take on.

Allstate now has a trike specific policy as of 3-4 months ago.

I requested my agent to change my coverage 30 days ago but it hasn't happened yet. Need to call him again.

Anyone had had any experience with Allstate?

Dan

My Goldwing is not a Factory Trike and I had no problems insuring with Progressive. They insure the Bike as a "Motorcycle" and the "Trike kit" as "accessories". Everyone I know with a Trike insured by Progressive has done it this way. I think they just started the "Trike" classification due to Harley having a Factory listed Trike.
Find a local agent and speak with them direct instead of just trying to get a quote online.

State Farm only cover factory made trikes ( Harley) . I have a Goldwing with a Roadsmith kit and they told me they would no longer cover it after I converted. I went with Ryder Insurance, fully covered my trike.
