Exhaust port gasket

I'm replacing the header on my 2015 triglide with a decatted one. It has 4k miles. Do I need to replace the exhaust gaskets too? I've heard it both ways.

Larry, Larry, Larry ....
We're talking a $5 gasket here.

You've invested a lot more time and energy into this already. Go ahead. Spend the pocket change. Make sure its tight and fits correctly.

Ride safe, fellow triker :pepper:

Thanks all
*Not trying to be cheap, just didn't want to do unnecessary work. I'm good at doing things the hard way and wanted to make sure I wasn't doing it that way this time too. Have not picked up the trike supplement yet. They don't have different torque spes in there than the touring manual shows do they?

What about the gasket from the head pipe to the crossover? Not sure if it is an actual gasket. Parts list calls it a gasket clamp.

i didn't replace that gasket. don't worry to much about the head port gasket they won't leak. i've never had one leak since my pan and shovel days.

Torque specs are the same between the trike and the bike.

Looking to replace the header on my 14 triglide, what brand of decatted header did you buy? Jim

Hi Jim. I'm buying a factory header that had the cat gutted from it. Considered aftermarket but have to watch my costs. The back seat rider is beginning to question if it would have been cheaper to keep the Jeep instead of buying the trike.

120 inch pounds for exhaust port clamp nuts. I replaced my gaskets using a 50mm wheel bearing race installer (Harbor Freight kit) and it worked perfectly. I also did a stock cat delete with Nightrider FL-ViED-10 enrichers. My 2014 runs great!

I would for sure. Sure beats doing the job twice if one leaks.

Amen to the freezer trick. Works much better than trying to force same temperature.

I can't think of any possible reason *not* to replace any gasket that had been torqued down even once.

Some gaskets I'll roll the dice on, I've used the same outer primary gasket several times, also the same derby gasket multiple times. Now exhaust, I'll replace them each and every time, too much of a PIA to pull the exhaust because I got cheap and lazy and it leaked.

:Agree: ThumbUp

Head pipe replaced today. Installed new exhaust port gaskets as per all the advice in this thread. Back one slid right in. Front one was trying to be a pain, so I went to the parts store and borrowed a bearing race installation kit. That worked like a charm. Also borrowed an exhaust pipe expander. I worked long and hard trying to get the exhaust connections apart and they were tight when I test fitted them back together. A little twist on the expander and all slid right together. Now all I have to do is ride it a few days and see how the heat is on the right cheek. Initial ride this evening, it seemed much cooler.

I will say that I read somewhere that someone said it was about an hour's job. I wish he had been here. It only took me about 3 1/2 or 4 hours. But I am the one who will have issues with a project if anyone will, so that didn't surprise me. No rattles or exhaust leaks that I can find though, so something must have gone right.
