Trike Cargo Trailer

I also like the Bushtec Entourage trailers but their high cost will probably keep me from owning one.

The Bushtecs are well worth the money Clint. I'm a dealer for Bushtec and Hannigan and will give you a good price on either one.

Trike cargo trailer

How many of you own and pull a trailer behind your trike? I'm considering the purchase of one for moderate to long distance touring. Any input and photos would be appreciated.

I pull an aluma trailer and love the extra room for the Wife's stuff. I could do without if I was by myself. It pulls so easy that you don't even know it is there. It will pull your fuel down a little bit but not that much.

Trailer

We pull a 1995 Escapade LE behind our 08GL1800 RS. Cannot think of one thing that we do not like about the trailer. The cooler on the tongue, the suit clothes carrier attached to the lid, the 25 cubic ft of cargo space: the likes just keep coming. Like most others, we can't even tell it is there. Good luck with your search.

I talked to Tom Finch, today. He's the designer of the awesome Tailwind trailer that's built here in Texas. Really nice gentleman.
As much as I like the Tailwind, the cost is way out of my price range as a loaded unit is in the neighborhood of $8,500.

A Hannigan trailer might be the way for me to go,if I decide to buy new. Zook sells them and that's a huge plus.

Here is what I've pulled for a few years. It is a Donkey trailer, they don't make it any more, or the company was sold.
Clam shell opening and it holds a ton of stuff. Pulls great & I have added a cooler holder.

One of those trailers is for sale at a shop in Altus,OK,about 70 miles from here. They are asking $895.
Not really what I'm looking for, though.

That was a heckuva deal,Clarence. I would have snatched it up,too. Am definitely not in any hurry and am also looking at used trailers.
If I bought a new one today,I'm pretty sure it would be a Hannigan LT and have them color-match it to our trike. Hannigan's paint work is one of the best out there,if not the best.

Jim,are you and Cheryl thinking about joining all of us in Kerrville, next month?

I only get one day off a week and that is Thursdays.

That is a nice trailer,Bubba, but a 575lb dry weight w/90lb tongue is quite a bit more than I prefer for an aircooled trike.

Not sure if you speaking of my trailer? But is is just 170 lbs dry weight. Tongue weight is 20 lbs.

Look at the quote tree again,Jim. I was referring to Bubba49's post with photos of that camper trailer. Dry weight on it is 575lbs,way more than I want our trike to pull.

If buying a new trailer,I'm starting to really like the Hannigan LT;weighs 160lbs empty,20 cubic feet capacity, and only $2295 base price.

My local Harley just took a black Bushtec Roadstar GT trailer in on a trade. Asking price is $2,500 if anyone is interested.

Clint - I bought the Bushtec Turbo +2 from Zook for our trip to Colorado this past July. I love the trailer for the way it pulled, and also for all the extra gear you can bring. I'll show it to you next month in Kerrville, TX.......

Looking forward to meeting you,Roger, and seeing all the different rides.

Well,I pulled the trigger today and bought a lightly used Bushtec Roadstar GT trailer. It's black in color and loaded with options. Will try to get some pics, later this afternoon. I was seriously thinking about ordering a new 2014-later Chopped Tour Pak and having it painted to match our trike instead but when we looked over the Bushtec, that changed our mind.

It's a must have for two people traveling. There are many affordable options out there. I have the Discovery trailer.
Ignore the tape on the bottom pic as we re-glued the lower section of trim,on each side.

Nice, trailers are great. I did not realize I had replied to the a while ago. Though it was a new thread since it came back on top. I love trailers, only use it a few times a year, but great to have.

I made mine back in 1982 with a trailer frame from a tractor store. The box came from a Coleman trailer. Just repacked the wheel bearings and bought new tires, including the spare.
Harbor Freight has a nice affordable one for about $1,000.

IMO Aluma makes the best bang for the buck trailer wise.

Agree. I tow an Aluma MCTXL behind my DFT Harley trike. Very rugged, easy access and plenty of room. Great trailer! ThumbUp

I used to tow a homemade trailer based on a cut down Harbor Freight frame and a car-top cargo box (very similar to the Harbor Freight Tag-Along currently available). For the price (coupon or 20% off) I think it's a good deal, especially to try out towing, but it needs the wheel bearings re-lubricated or replaced with American bearings and the addition of an ice chest platform. If you are handy this is certainly an option, but the Aluma is a real trailer, with a real trailer axle, zerk-fittings for lubing the bearings and is designed right from the ground up. It's also a lot more rain-tight.

I got good service from my home-brew HF trailer, towed it quite a bit, including a great trip from NorCal to Phoenix and back. I came across a good deal on an Aluma, and sold the home-brew (for a few bux more than I had in it, not including the hours) to a guy with a nice older Electraglide headed out on a long "empty nest" trip with his wife.
