Puzzled by need to change everything

I regularly read most of the posts on this board, and look through the ones about bike mods to see if there is something I'd like to tackle on my trike.

A lot of these are about changing out the exhaust systems, removing the Cat, EFI tuning, cam upgrades, oil coolers, engine fans, air cleaner upgrades, lift kits, etc., etc. Half the time I don't have a clue what the poster is referring to, so I have to start Googling the terms in the post.

Why all the abbreviations and no explanations? The few times I have asked for some insight, I get flamed for being dumb or for stirring up trouble. TOI isn't a private club, as far as I know. Why the blatant discrimination against trikers who aren't familiar with your preferred brand?

I've been riding some kind of bike or trike for 56 years now. Started with Lambretta, Vespa and Coleman scooters. Went to Suzuki, Honda, Triumph, Moto Guzzi, BMW, Harley Davidson, Yamaha and Kawasaki. Why so may brands? Upgrades, good deals, mechanical problems not worth fixing, curiosity, greed, lust, need for speed, more power, you name it.

I changed out the exhaust on only one bike, and the shocks on another. Every other mod was just farkles and comfort features like seats and windshields.

I guess I have trouble understanding the new breed of dragsters, power tuners, and master motorcycle mechanics who seem to dominate this board. The old timers are mostly couch potatoes who love to ride their trikes on weekends or take the wife (girlfriend) to lunch with the guys and gals.

Rant over. :GL1800:

First, welcome to the board.
Everything you mentioned is about a harley.
Goldwings dont need a tuner, muffler changes ot removing the cats.
Almost every thing that gw riders do is enhancments, looks or comfort.
Hang in there you will catch on.

What should be done to start with if in fact this did happen is contact a MOD. or perhaps PM ZOOK.
Don't understand the concern about what members are doing to there Harleys if you don't ride one.

I ride a Harley Frankensporty and have no desire to upgrade cams, induction, etc. I would have preferred to retain stock exhaust but couldn' t with the trike kit I installed. So I have made it as quiet as possible with the pipes I have. Of course a Sportster is generally called a girls bike anyway.

Thanks Fuzzy. I've got a lot of friends who ride Harleys. They're really good folks. I don't have anything against Harley riders, except that they make all the trikes ride in the back of the pack when we go on RTEs (oh, well).

My post was that I browse this board for education and information about things I'm not familiar or experienced with. If I ask a question, it's out of curiosity, not criticism.

Jaxbobg, I wish you would send us some examples or incident, that caused your need to post this thread. ALL the moderators and the owner are multi brand owner/rider individuals. None of us are one brand specific. That being said we have what we own, but love them all. We all read all the posts because that is what we signed up to do. So if we missed a slight at another poster please let us know. We want all our members to be comfortable here. We do not tolerate person attacks, different opinions are what makes the world go around but don't make it personal. With that said we can't fix what we don't know is broke.

One thing I do have to say though TOI (Trike Owners International) and TrikeTalk are privately owned. They were created and are registered by their owner.

Please contact one of us moderators with any concerns you encounter. We will take whatever action that is appropriate.

I concur on what both Gorilla and Fuzzy said. If there are issues we as moderators WILL get to the bottom of it and do everything in our power to make things right! ;)

I give up.

I know that all of you moderators have the best of intentions and want the members of this board to have a great experience.

I was particularly stung by a comment made to me in public by Gorilla. My bad. My post probably came out sounding wrong, not on purpose. I've made a public apology for being inconsiderate and have sent a PM to Gorilla explaining the entire situation. I haven't heard back, so I guess I'm still in the sh*t hole.

Thank you Bazooka, skuuter, Gorilla, FuzzyWuzHe, stinger608, and Keystone for the time and energy you put into the life of this board. It's undoubtedly the most active and widely followed motorcycle oriented forum on the entire internet.

You're cool with us,jaxbobg. Don't sweat the small stuff and always remember the only dumb questions are the ones not asked.
