Slingshot trikes

I was at an "Open House" about a month ago and they had a Slingshot there and was told by the Polaris rep that they were going to ship to the Southern Dealers by the end of October and then to the north. I tried to get into the driver's seat and couldn't fit. My legs would not bend in the right directions.

Yep, I did manage to get [squeeze] into one a few weeks ago, Almost couldn't get out.
The designers must all be Stealth and short...

I just looked at an Email Polaris sent to my in box... My dealer should be getting two in by ;
November 26.......

You getting one Reno?

I was going to, But after dumping 40k on a new pick-up, and getting a new Victory..
I think i'll wait on it .. But after sitting in one, And Fighting to Get in and out of the drivers seat' ''No''.. It was such a hassle, That I didn't take it out for a test ride..
I really didn't want to waste the salespersons time..

Sounds like it's made for the younger more nimble folks. I'd probably have the same issues getting in and out of the Slingshot with my bad hip. I'd still like to at least try to sit in one once they're available at the dealers.

According to website demographics the #1 group of interest is 25-34(35%) #2= 18-24 and above 35 the percentages drop where only 5.5% are over 55. Just the inverse of interest in 1-2 trike setups. I think the 18-25 range would be #1 if cost was not such a factor.
In the 2-1 configuration 46% are also women.

That's my Cliff Clavin for the day :xzqxz:

Texas pulls back on the Slingshot. Says the three wheel vehicle can't be titled for on the road use in the state. Doesn't qualify as a motorcycle and doesn't have necessary safety equipment to be considered a car. State definition of a motorcycle is having a saddle instead of a car style seat which the Slingshot has. It will not be allowed to register Slingshot as a street legal motorcycle.

:Shrug: So says the Great State of Texas.

Interesting. I know of two Grinnall Scorpion 111 trikes [side by side seating] that have been registered in Texas. I wonder if lobbying by the builders of

Thoroughbred Motorsports Stallions could have influenced regulators to insert the requirement of fore and aft seating? Is a hack rig also a car in the eyes of Texas regulators?

I delivered to a motor sports dealer last week in Pa., who had one on the show room floor. Took a look, the Big Dog wouldn't give it a ThumbUp, but a smaller rider might. They have had a lot of interest in them, of course I think the number of ordered units was not mentioned. They will find a market!!

I'm trike less now and am considering one or the Spyder. Not sure but will test drive before purchase. I see they are at the dealers now here in WI. Been there I guess for about three to four weeks. Everyone have a good Christmas.:Santa:

Rhino2 what made it so hard to get in. I tried to get in a Stallion was difficult. My friend , a woman , tried to get in and broke the mirror off. Just wondering what the difficult part was?

I'm 5'11 around 210, And just getting my knee's under the steering post was a job, Also once in then getting out there's a roll bar that runs along the bottom sides to keep the drivers feet in, That was a problem getting my feet/legs out..

The only way I can describe it was like when you get in a car after a short person drove it.. In my opinion if you made a lot of short trips, Like going to a store or coffee shop it would become a hassle.. I will add I'm almost 70, So my legs aren't as flexible as they once were... And there was broken plastic trim.. One was the leaver for raising the steering wheel, Which still worked but you has to grab it by the nub..

Wow and you are like average build.. i don"t consider you really tall or large. what about the 6' plus people or the 260 lb plus people. seems like not the perfect design. I have to check it out this year at Americade.

Picked up my Slingshot this afternoon. Really enjoyed the ride home thou it has less than 50 miles total on it getting 35 miles from home. Haha. Low 50's with high humidity today. Roads were mostly dry where traffic had traveled otherwise damp. I'll post up more info as I learn more about this machine.

I think the slingshot is a really neat transporter for contemporary riders although I may be the only one here who isn't enamored with the look/style. :cxtv: Guess I'm just a motorcycle traditionalist who keeps finding new ways to feel like an ole fogey...

Doesn't matter what you ride...just be safe out there and have fun while you're doing it!

Thoroughbred Stallion 005.JPG

Try looking up the BEST TRIKE money can buy. www.motorsportthoroughbredstallion.com Or go to You Tube and type in Thoroughbred Stallion Trike. I retired from the Detroit Fire Department 23 years ago and now life in Florida. The Stallion even has AC and Heat plus it take 87 octane gas.

That fact that premium fuel is required could be a deal breaker for some. I too would of preferred an engine that could run on regular gas. Due to almost everywhere you go there's the 10% alcohol crap for gas, maybe having a higher octane fuel is good, performance wise that is. I haven't seen any real lack of 91-93 fuel anywhere myself. Our Miata requires the 91-93 octane fuel to so I know the pain at the pump when filling up. Just part of having a fun vehicle.

Interesting machine, Only time will tell how all the soft parts [plastic] will hold up in real world driving.. The one I looked at a few months ago had a few pieces hanging off...
Hope Polaris sell a ton of them though , The more ''New'' people into power sports the better it is for all of us...ThumbUp
