Slingshot trikes

Anyone here besides myself planning on getting a Slingshot?
Larry

If I had disposable money, I would. Looks like a real "fun" vehicle and very easy to work on. With that said, I'll just keep my Honda DelSol for a similar fun factor. ;)

If the number of deposits is any indication then these Slingshots are going to be selling as fast as Polaris can make and ship them. Everything being said so far looks good to me. Deliveries are still up in the air thou. I've heard/read everything for late Sept to mid Nov with the early Oct getting the most posted. Time will tell.
I'm 1stin line at the local dealers for a SL model. Sold my Venture trike already with the buyer picking it up in the morning. Hated to part with it but no garage room and don't really need two trikes and their costs.

First problem I notice was that it takes 91 octane fuel. A lot of areas don't have it, and how long will it be available?
You could end up like Harley riders, carrying a little can of octane boost. Kind of like carrying a jug of oil for an old two stroke.

That fact that premium fuel is required could be a deal breaker for some. I too would of preferred an engine that could run on regular gas. Due to almost everywhere you go there's the 10% alcohol crap for gas, maybe having a higher octane fuel is good, performance wise that is. I haven't seen any real lack of 91-93 fuel anywhere myself. Our Miata requires the 91-93 octane fuel to so I know the pain at the pump when filling up. Just part of having a fun vehicle.

Larry,
When you do get your new Beast and ever find yourself down here in the Sticks,
How 'bout a Ride :clapping:
Heck, I got no problem throwing some gas (no matter the octane) your way :D

No issues what so ever with finding "Premium" octane Fuel in Hill-Billy Land (or anywhere that I've ever been for that matter).
I hear tell even got full 100% un-cut Gasoline if you want :xzqxz:
Not an Issue.

Congrats on the quick sale of your RSV ThumbUp
Looking forward to your Review and thoughts on your Slingshot.

Premium fuel (High Test) wouldn't bother me. After all, this is a recreational vehicle, not one that's your main mode of transportation. (Or maybe for some of us die-hards, it could be! lol )

If I had the extra finances, I'd get one! ThumbUp

Best of luck with your new ride!!! ;)

Yea, 91/93 Octane that's a deal breaker, What with the extra cost. My Bentley runs on 91
and the cost of gas was killing me, So much so that I had to lay off my Chauffeur, and now I have to drive myself.;);)

Thanks for the comments. It was hard to see the RSV trike go. I'd be happy to let you take it for a spin.

After a test drive I am interested. Not putting a non-refundable down payment on anything that I haven't test driven.

It is possible that is may be too low to get into or out of comfortably.

So much for waiting - my husband put down a deposit today - refundable - we might see it in December.

That's cool . I sure hope I get mine before December thou cause If I don't I'll have to trailer it south far enough to get away from snow & /or cold here in southern Michigan. I'm 1st in line to get one from the local dealer and so far rumors are sometime in Oct. No one knows for sure yet. Heck I'm not even sure if Polaris even knows. LOL

Let's see. Hi test or reg. if I was using it to commute to work it might be an issue. But seeing Honey and I take it on a trip to no place and back on a Sunday. Can't see the difference in wasting an extra $ 1.30 on gas. My friend with his 1800 Wing always busted me at the pump. On a ride when we filled up he would use 2 tents of a gallon less. About 40 cents.if I was worried on how much I was wasting I would leave it parked in the garage. We , we'll most of us waste gas every time we back out of the garage. Let's face it that is what we do with a boat, snowmobile dirt bike, jet ski.

Keep us posted. You should get yours before West coast people. The dealer is supposed to be getting three in October...and we are 4th on the list.

I couldn't care less about the COST. I use non-ethanol in everything I have, and pay a 30 cent per gallon penalty for doing it. My concern is about AVAILABILITY. A lot of places do not have anything over 87 now.

Then you use what they got... Till you find what you need, I've had to do that from time to time.. The ECM Will just detune it a little.. Similar to knock sensors..

Slingshot sure looks nice.

Larry, since your previous trike wasn't 2 wheels in front, have you driven a Can Am so you know the difference? It's not the same experience is what I've heard.

Trike is really sporty, like a convertible dragster with one wheel in back. Myself, I like looking at the Boss Hoss ads and info, but doubt I'll ever get one.

My son has a Can Am so I'm familiar with the riding position & handling. I don't think the two can even be compared, other than being both reverse tries.

I plan on test driving one, but according to the boss, i'm only allowed one big toy in the garage at a time...will still sneak in a test drive:laugh:

RT's are the wave of the future and Slingshot, CanAm and Elio are great examples. Elio has pre sold over 40,000 units so far.

The demographics support this type of build as a younger sportier group and female interest is very high. This is a sample of 15,000 web hits over a 7 mo period on a new RT type product.

Still waiting for the latest word from Polaris on deliveries. There has been some sort of hold up on them getting into customers hands. Being a completely new venture with shipping logistics, any manufacturing bumps, and the fact that Polaris moved to a new factory location, & what not I can see why there's been delays. It don't help none either with being taken by surprise on the overall number of pre-solds.
Still looking like Polaris will still start deliveries in the next week or two. Sure hope so cause weather will start turning here before much longer. Had a few frosty morning so far but its been warming up during the day to low to mid 60's. That won't last much longer I'm afraid. :(
Oh and thanks to the Administrator(s) for adding us, soon to be, Slingshot owners our own section.

Next week is the SEMA event in Las Vegas and although Polaris will be an exhibitor they will not have the slingshot as the display item. All they are having is one of their side by sides.
Too bad as I was hoping to sit in one. I guess I will have to wait until the dealers get them and do it then.

I will get to check out Elio real close as our booth is adjoining theirs. I need to figure out how they can sell them for $6800.

About Two weeks ago I was at Rollingfast in Lebanon NJ 'they Had two sitting in front, One red and one silver.. One was a demo with broken plastic
interior parts, Very difficult to get in and out, Unless your 140 and 5'6 Which I'm not..
I didn't bother to take a test ride, My opinion and ''only'' my opinion, I don't think they will hold up in the rough roads here in the North east... First high curb and that hammer head front end is gone..

The slingshot is made out of the same thing all Polaris's products are made out of. You know they make military vehicles too with the same parts as their UTV's. The slingshot is no more off road worthy then any other road trike.

I was at an "Open House" about a month ago and they had a Slingshot there and was told by the Polaris rep that they were going to ship to the Southern Dealers by the end of October and then to the north. I tried to get into the driver's seat and couldn't fit. My legs would not bend in the right directions.
