Getting Used To It...

Hey Folks,
Just got my new 2014 TriGlide (3rd Harley) and generally love it. Especially in traffic...no feet down. Wahoo.
I have pretty much adapted to no more counter-steering and the increased physicality of driving it. However, the one thing that has me bugged is the bike's tendency to 'wander' (for lack of a better word.) The tracking/steering seems to require much increased attention and I wear out sooner. (I'm an 'Old Guy.') When going down the road I can really feel like I am being rocked and rolled - constantly. Yes, it does vary according to the pavement condition, but it's still always there.
Is this just the way it is? Any tips for a neophyte triker?
Thanks.
Bob.

When I first ride it on the test drive, I could not stop the wander. The test rider with me told me to relax and gently steer it in the direction I wanted to go. When I stopped pushing the bar slight left and right and just let it go, the wander disappeared. Just stop trying to stop the wander, just kinda aim it and it won't wonder any more. Less correcting is best.

Its kinda normal, With 3 wheels you really can't miss most potholes, Ease up and relax and go with the flow... Also if you install the lift kit from tGilde stuf [ a sponsor] it will lighten the steering effort a little. ThumbUp

I always tell everyone to try and forget about the side to side motion and concentrate on the front tire and keeping it in the center of the lane. It isn't going to tip. Worry about where the the front tire is going and forget about everything else. After a while the side to side motion and the "twitchy" feeling of the handling goes away and it gets much easier to handle. Coming off of 2 wheels it feels really odd at first, but if you ignore the rocking and focus on the front end and where the front tire is going, it gets a lot easier.

At 2700+ miles I agree with all the above comments! With the big steering damper on the 2014 it is a breeze to drive. You have to ignore the rocking and learn to live with crowned roads. A crowned road will always require some steering input .... a level road is pure heaven. On 2 wheels you lean on the crown to vertical and do not have this input need. YES I have the 1.25 shock lift kit from tGLIDEstuff.com and IMO it makes a positive difference. I love my trike more with each ride. :D

Hay all, thanks for the replies and encouragement. I only have about 350 miles on the bike (ooops, trike...), but as stated, the more I ride it, the better it will get. I am glad I made the move and look forward to many, many more miles.

Bob.
