Stallion Trike Mods

Re: Stallion Modifications

They are secured along the top to the inside curved area and along the complete bottom with 3m double sided tape. I notched the Plexiglas just above the ridge 1/8th inches so I could give a 20 degrees out for air deflection so the bent part is not resting on any of the body. The side deflectors on the windshield also have the 20 degrees. I wish I had did 30 degrees on the body ones. I would have had to make another jig for the bending but they are close enough with the 20 degrees

Pressure was applied from the inside outward for 24 hours. If I had to do them over I would probably go the 30 degrees and also bring the top part area a little more into the body area to allow for more contact for securing. That is the only week spot on them. I used half inch 3m tape but it would have been better to had a double tapped area in the top part due to the edge being angles so much.

The biggest problem in making the templates for theses is the fiberglass body. There was at least a half inch different in the size from left and right in many areas. So one had to be made bigger then the other. Which required two separate templates to be made.

Re: Stallion Modifications

Hello everyone,
I've recently upgraded the headlights on my stallion and they are an improvement. However,I decided to add the modulator from KISAN for both hi and lo beams for even safer riding.I ordered the 115WDHL as directed and the trike shop said about 30 minutes to install,so I had the shop install.I'm now awaiting shipment of the 2nd unit and after three attemps was wondering if anyone else had installed a modulator for both headlamps?Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Stallion Modifications

I only installed in on the high beam. Worked great with no issues. Posted under another thread i think.

Re: Stallion Modifications

Just a quick note. If anyone goes to buy the top windshield extender from Baker Wings they come in 3 sizes 18”, 15” & 12”. The 18” is too long. So get the 12” or 15”

Re: Stallion Modifications

I did not want the J&M Stallion CB kit and especially the antenna but I did want to connect my J&M elite headset to the factory radio. I found a helmet headset adapter cable from J&M, part # MA-38 or Sierra Electroincs. This is for a 5 pin system and includes a filter and the connection for the lower cord.

Re: Stallion Modifications

Hello,
You've been busy.I would recommend B@G SEATCOVERS with additional padding underneath covers, they look sharp. I also had two gel backs installed in original seat.I have 565.00 in seat rehab, compared to the new seat from stallion which is somewhere around 900.00.Do you have the upgraded seat? Also,I had the trike dealer in oregon install the Kisan modulator for both headlamps and they shorted out the unit the first time. Anyway I spent 90.00 in gas and four trips for what they estimated as 30 minute install. This unit(115wDHL) is plug and play.Do it yourself, just be sure the positive from trike goes to the postive side of connector from Kisan.Measure your sensor location and have factory make correct length so you do not need to wire anything. Lastly, what did you wire your leds to? THANKS. EMAIL B & G Cycle Upholstery. Great people to work with.

Re: Stallion Modifications

Hi, I have a spoiler on MJ's Stallion. You can go to my profile and I have an album of 10 pictures. I got the base product from R & R in Jasper Ga. It is made by a company Dawn Enterprises, Inc. My neighbor is a great fiberglass guy he did the major amount of advising and work. We extended the legs 1 inch in the front to 1/4 in in the rear and conformed them to the truck lines. We used quick dry bondo then my neighbor glassed over for rigidity. We painted it with a 2008 Mazda White Pearl paint that was very very close to what is on the Stallion. Really turned out nice.

Great Job TMIGLIA!!!! That looks like a concept car now! One of a kind. Great Job Great Job Great Job!

Re: Stallion Modifications

That looks sharp, Ted! And I like the pin striping too :D

Re: Stallion Modifications

Ted,that is one sweat mod. Combined with the pinstripes, turtles, and the cool nonskid on the step MJ has one VERY SHARP ride, you can both be proud

Re: Stallion Modifications

I don't know about anyone else, but i have problems seeing the turn signals indicators on the instrument panel during the day. I wish they were brighter. The same for the trip meeter.

Anyone have a suggestion on how to make them brighter?

Re: Stallion Modifications

Same here. I found the best fix for this problem is to drive under a bridge or into the night. That's it. Sorry, I bet you thought I was going to say something useful! I looked into this one several times. Looked for brighter bulbs, but the Ford dealer said nothing they can do. The only thing I think may solve the problem is a solution I had seen on a BMW touring bike. It had a very deep shelf that was set at the same angle with the drivers vision to form a deep box that would not let very much light onto the cluster. I just did not want to bolt something on to the cluster because it has such nice smooth and rounded lines. I bet is someone could come up with something out of cardboard they could see if this concept would work.

Re: Stallion Modifications

For now i took a piece of turn signal plastic about 1/8 x 1/4 in thick and 1 in long and super glued it to the top edge of the front turn signals lens. It sits just high enough for me to see the plastic. It does help during the day i can seen the front turn signals flashing. It is not as bright id like, but it is better than the ones in the instrument cluster.

I'm thinking of wiring an LED to the turn signals and mounting in inside corners of the dash. Still thinking it out.

I wounder if TMS know how hard it is to see the light in the dash, and if they have something in the work to improve it.

Re: Stallion Modifications

TBMS knows how hard it is to see the instrument cluster lights. I think they look at that as off limits because it is a complete ford part. Unelss they go to a new cluster I don't think they are going to address it. I like the LED solution if you can make it work. I only have the problem in the bright sun. I would like to have a bright LED for the turn signals, and most improtant the High beam because that is when I have my Wig-Wag on . I noticed I can see my directions on Ducati Monster by looking at the top plastic of my turn signals like you are creating. I think Stallions are not alone when it comes to this issue.

If this is a Ford product, do you think there would be an adjustment rheostat somewhere like in a car for the gage brightness?

I think that is a lot of our problems, ie, it is a Ford part. I am not impressed by Ford parts. I dont see TBMS creating a solution for this either. Hopefully, some of you talented guys will come up with a solution.

Re: Stallion Modifications

Cas,
They are idiot lights, they are either Idiots or not! Their is no inbetween.

Re: Stallion Modifications

My solution was to attach LED arrows on my mirrors. I am able to see it ok in the daylight.

Because of my height the Mirrors view is too low and has big blind spots. To fix this I stold the GoldWing's add on mirror ideal and place their bind view mirror on top of my current mirrors and this now gives a full view now.

Re: Stallion Modifications/turn indicators

Here is my solution to the no see um turn indicators. Installed this PM. Bought a Pilot red Glo-Pods 2 piece kit at Pep boys, cost of $23 for the pair. Part # CZ252R They are super bright, 6 leds on each oval pod.
Installation was as follows. Attached led pods to lower inside mirror housing, on each side, with velcour. Next task is splice into the turn signal wiring. Since the original factory wire has only 2 in. or so slack, you need to splice in an extension wire. I did ask Jeff Vey WHY the wire is so short, his response does not bear repeating. (totally BS).
You will need to break away the mirrors to access the short wires. Remove amber lens. I drilled a tiny hole in bottom of mirror housing to route the led wire inside. Be careful, the led wire needs to be attached to correct wires, or they will not work. It is also a tiny, fragile wire, solder and heat shrink everything. A bit of wire is on bottom of mirror housing, but my Baker wings hide it pretty well. Reattach the mirrors. A bit of KY on the posts helps a lot.
Result, turn signal LED indicators are quite visible in bright sunlight.
TBMS could fix this design defect if they wanted to. Maybe some better engineers would be a start.

Re: Stallion Modifications

I Like both Ideas...

BenO: Because of my height the Mirrors view is too low and has big blind spots. To fix this I stold the GoldWing's add on mirror ideal and place their bind view mirror on top of my current mirrors and this now gives a full view now. ... LED arrows on my mirrors

Road Runner: Pilot red Glo-Pods

If you can post some photos.

I was thinking of putting some red LED's behind the glass mirror so the dark area around the Mirror would be framed in red when the lights flash. I haven't fugured out how to get behind the mirror yet.

Re: Stallion Modifications

I did a mod like Road Runner except I used loud (but not toooo loud) beepers from Radio Shack.
so that when I turn on my turn signals they beep at me, one for each side.

another mod I did was put in a relay so that the lights (tail, head) only work with the key on.
you can leave the headlight sw on all the time, only works with key.

At what speed do you no longer hear these beepers?

Re: Stallion Modifications

about 60 or 70 MPH, I know you won't hear them at 100.
if I have the radio on too load maybe less.
if you use bright LED's and place them in the right spot it may be better.
I had the beepers so that is what I used

Re: Stallion Modifications

I’m more of a visual person. This is what I came up with.
LED Lights on the edge of the housing Mirror.

Inspired by:
YouTube - L.E.D Blinker Install On Burgman 650 Mirror
Using this idea, I used Oznium flex strips 5” long and attached them to the edge of the mirror housing.
LEDs - Ribbon Thin, Flexible, Waterproof & Bright LED Strips
by removing the turn signal lens I drilled a hole to run the wires and connected them at the wire connector inside the mirror housing. They are easy to see during the day and more fun at night.
The sticky back worked ok in the center I ended up using contact cement in the corners.

Re: Stallion Modifications

Bill thanks for the heads up on this. I like it.

Re: Stallion Modifications

I discovered the trunk release on the Stallion is electric but not wired up.

As much as I’m in and out of the trunk I’d like to hook up so I don’t need the key. I’ll use a button for now and when I put the alarm system in I will set it up on the remote.

The connector for the electric trunk release is three wire. Does anyone know how this is wired? What wire goes where?

I got a connector for it, I just need to figure out the wiring. I know how to wire it up with two wires, but what is the third connector for?

Sorry the photo is out of focus, the camera was too close. Not much room in the trunk for me.

Re: Stallion Modifications

Hey Bill that must be on a new one and a change. My unit 406 does not have that release. My Ford police car has an electric trunk release I'll see tomorrow how many wires are there and see if I can help you.

Re: Stallion Modifications, Stebel air horn added

every bike I have ever had except the 1st 2 had an air horn added. so the last 12 bikes had an air horn and now the Stallion has one.
the Stebel air horn is the most compact and works good on motorcycles, I also have one on my Ninja 650R

I want to be heard when I have the need to honk the horn.

now the fun thing on the Stallion is you can not get to the regular horn so wiring the Stebel was going to be fun. 2 of my daughters live within 10 miles of TBMS and since I was going to be there for Thanksgiving I got there a day early and went over to TBMS and got Nick to find out how to wire in a new horn, once you know how it is easy.
