My wife and I on our trike hit a deer yesterday. It jumped onto the road directly in front of us, we did not even have time to hit the brakes. We love our trike even more now. If we would have been on two wheels we would have been down and sliding on the road. The trike rode out the collision with style :) We even ran over it with the front wheel.

One dead deer, one hurt Harley (gonna take a bunch of parts) and two uninjured riders :)

Woods Rats, They'll jump out out of no-ware, Glad you were able to ride it out without personal damage..ThumbUp

Trikes can get fixed, glad you and your wife are ok. I wondered if the harley sound would keep them from jumping out, guess not.

Glad to hear you're both alright. Me personally, I like my deer whistles. Stuck chrome colored ones on either side of front fender on TG. I have no proof they don't work. For the price, it can't hurt.

I still have stock mufflers. I do have V&H headers maybe that will be a good excuse to get the V&H mufflers :)pepper

That is the same name the police officer called them. I had never heard that before.

Out here we always called them that,
Deer are really easy to train, The state put signs along the roads so the deer know where to cross... But every now and then some will ''J'' walk..

Been there, done that! So glad you are ok. The trike's stability makes a huge difference, doesn't it.

Dave & Fran, We are so glad you personally came out OK...hope the bike is not too bad off.

I often ride home from work at strange hours in areas known for deer. Over the years I've had a couple of close calls with the car, including 3 hits, but with only minor damage.

I'm now experimenting, on the trike, with the "air driven" whistles similar to what Bozo's uses, and also a Hopkins electronic alert. So far, so good - but you never know if your not seeing deer because of the alerts, or if there were no deer anyway - regardless of whistle alerts or no alerts. Who knows... ...but as long as I don't see (or hit) any deer, I'm a happy camper. ThumbUp

So glad you're both ok and were able to ride out the collision. I have the regular deer whistles along with the electric Deer Hornet. As was previously mentioned, I have no idea if these units work, even the Deer Hornet, but I'd rather have them in the chance they do offer some level of protection.. ThumbUp

Rich, my friend has the Hornet alert and swears by it. If it turns out I want to try something different, the Hornet is my next step. You said it best, "I'd rather have them in the chance they do offer some level of protection...". ThumbUp

Dave I'm GLAD to here you & your wife are ok. That's my biggest fear. Is hitting a deer on my M/C. So glad you both are alright. Bet your heart did a few jumps also. Can you post some pictures of how the trike looks ?

I wish they would open deer season here in Ohio for 12 months a year and permit machine guns. Deer are everywhere, every week of the year. Riding back roads where I live at night is like playing Russian Roulette. The Fall is especially dangerous of course, but no time of the year to safe. But I do feel safer on three wheels more than I did on two.

Used to be here in central Illinois, deer were rare. Now, in the years since conservationists got involved; we have them running everywhere. We've even had them in our yard. I tend to agree with the 12 month season and machine guns.....

We were doing about 40mph. It was a 35mph speed zone. :)

Went to check on trike most all damaged parts were removed, entire front end, left lower, and left rear fender. . They had all the new parts except front fender and left rear fender was still out for painting. They claimed the trike would be ready by 5 pm today, yeah right.... I am betting early next week and that will be with a loaner front fender of some color.

Well they did not get it repaired. Called to come get it Thursday, I waited until Friday and it was not repaired. Pulled hard to the right. Now they have more parts ordered :( Probably another week. They have a Merlot front fender on it, does not match my blue bike but it will work. They said Harley has 4-6 week delivery on a blue fender. I hope I still remember how to ride it.

There was a 64 year old woman killed at the MB fall rally when a deer hit them at 10 AM. She was wearing a helmet. There was another deer/bike but they were okay. I live on a big lake in the boonies and just can't ride after dark because of the deer, have hit 3 of them with our vehicles. On another note I don't ride the interstates after dark because or the alligators (truck retreads) on the road, wish something could be done about this but don't know what.

Well the Harley doctor called again and said it was ready. Went and picked it up again and did a test ride. It goes straight so they have that fixed. Got the tuning with the TTS and SE254 cams done also. Runs a lot smoother and no decel popping anymore. Accel is better for passing also. Still have a merlot front fender :) Harley doesn't know when they will ship the blue/black fender. I am riding anyway now. The wife and I took off today and did 120 miles and had a great lunch.
