Ignored oil spots(1/4-1/2" dia) on my right fender bra, until today. Always thought it was from the road, but, it wasn't on the other fender. No drips on the ground. Ran my hand around air cleaner, came up wet with oil from bottom of cleaner. Anybody else have this? Is this normal?

Thanks ahead.

Yep...Oil is overfilled...need to leave it 1/2 qt low when you change the oil...This is very common..and normal....The world of H.D. quirks!!

Not just Harley, All dry sump engines if filled at or over the fill mark will blow out oil though the air cleaner, and or the air box [spyder] Especially if you like to live in the high rpm's.

Running a half quart low should take care of it, if it keeps up I'd check with the dealer since your still under warranty.

Mine will do the same. If I run about 65 or under it don't but 70 or over it does. So did my 08. I also know quite a few others that it happens to. Seams like it's not unusual for the twin cam engines to do that. It does seam worse on my Tri Glide than it was on my 08 EG but I think that's because theres more fender there to catch it. It may look like a lot of oil but the amount of oil I loose barley shows on my dip stick between oil changes, every 5,000 miles. Some say run a half quart low and it won't happen. It's probably just me but I'm not a fan of running less oil in any engine than it's supposed to have so I just wipe it down and don't worry about it.

Had to do the same with mind. Dumped out 1/2qt. at one time. All over the right fender and wifes new jeans. It was a mess. They told me to run a 1/2qt. low and now have no problem. If the breathers in the rocker covers fail this will happen too.

Same here Rod.If i run interstate speeds for any length of time i'll get a lil oil,but not any at normal hi-way speeds.

Thanks for the replies.
Why isn't this common info coming from MOCO, or service department?
Maybe thats why my 08 sporty and 11 ultra limited was low on oil after changes?.?.

Mine blows back after about 800 miles especially if doing a lot of highway speeds so around 500-600 miles I take the air cleaner out degrease the filter and cover and I seldom have that problem anymore.

+11111 (lost count).....have to run 1/2 quart low on oil changes or spits out oil via the air cleaner. Did on my '09 from the get-go....what the hell. Not so much on the '13 and it's documented on my acct not to fill oil to the "line" at oil changes!

Right in the manual, That came with my 13 sportster, 1500
At or above the upper mark [dip stick] drain the oil until the level reads between the upper and lower marks!

Perform engine oil level COLD CHECK as follows:

For pre-ride inspection, place vehicle on level ground.

See Engine Oil Filler Cap. Remove filler plug/dipstick and wipe off the dipstick. Insert the dipstick and tighten into the fill spout.

Remove the dipstick. Using the gauge marked FULL HOT VEHICLE UPRIGHT on the dipstick, verify the oil level. The correct oil level should register midway (2) between the FULL and ADD marks on the dipstick.

NOTE:

If oil level is at or below the ADD mark, add only enough oil to bring the level to the middle of the two marks on the dipstick. For cold level check, do not exceed the midpoint (2) when filling with oil.
