Pipes pipes pipes

:xszpv:Not pipes just extension turn downs put on the wing last night . What should have been a five minute job took a couple hours Thanks to a hiden fastner on the right pipe which I could not get a wrench on so had to saw it off with a screw driver and hammer and lots of foul words but the good new I am no longer putting exhust on my chrome light bar now it just goes to the ground.:Trike1:

True dual and the street cannons... That'll leave a mark on your ear drums:D. I've heard the street cannon has a pretty open baffle, you can see through the muffler which means pretty loud when installed on a true dual.

Man you ain't kiddin loud. :AGGHH: We rode a few miles and had to yell at each other over the intercom and still hardly heard each other. :AGGHH:

Now I have to find something a little quieter next week. I wanted something a better than stock after adding the true dual header. Are the 4 inch Rineharts real loud also? I think they also had some Rush mufflers too but I don't know to much about them.

Any recommendation for a low/deep pitch muffler running true dual head pipes would be appreciated. :xzqxz:

Gadgetz, I've been lookin around for deep sounding mufflers for our 2012 TG. After several phone calls to Vance and Hines (I know you have true dual head pipes) they recommended V&H Monster Rounds for the deepest sound.

I asked a lot of questions about mufflers: Does the outside body diameter of the muffler effect the sound, what about the baffle diameter? Does the diameter of the baffle in relation to the diameter of the muffler body effect the sound? The length? All he'd say is Monster Rounds are their deepest sounding mufflers.

Then went to Daytona the next day and talked to the muffler guy there. He didn't know squat about the production of sound we're looking for. The price for these mufflers on V&H web site was $600.99 but they were $649 plus installation at Daytona. So I still don't know exactly what those Monster Rounds sound like. Wound up buying V&H Slash Rounds off the net for $300 and they should be here 3/26/13. I'll install them the next day.

The manufacturers are pretty closed mouth about the controlling of sound. He did tell me the packing around the baffle attenuates the high frequencies and allows the low freqs out for us to hear. (I already knew this from past experimentation.)
This "good" sound is pretty subjective, so what sounds good to me may not sound good to you.

Good luck. PC

PhuCat, NP, I appreciate the feedback good or bad. :)

I posted earlier I put V&H True duals on with Rush slip on mufflers 1.75 baffles really like the sound. A good rumble but can still talk and hear radio. Worked for me any way. Good luck with your choice.

I don't have the true duals, but I do have the monster round. I love that deep rumble !
They aren't too loud either. But the fiberglass is still new also. I am running a standard header w/o cat. I won't have anything other than these V&H muffs !

what a variety here. can you find someone who already has them installed & listen to them? maybe at the first HOG rally. thats what i plan on doing.3-6 or 8-12 " snow tomorrow here in north central insiana depending on man!! will this weather ever brake!!who you listen to.

I would think the Supertrapp Megaphone series SuperTrapp: Performance Exhaust with the closed end cap would quiet it down some and maintain a power increase. I run their Supermeg 2.1 on my 120" equipped 06 Ultra and its pretty quiet.

Muffler body size along with baffle diameter play a role in how loud and how well a muffler performes. A smaller baffle will improve low end torque along with the muffler being quieter. Of course the larger the baffle the more the low end torque shifts from being at a lower RPM to a higher RPM.

I was around a beautiful black TG last fall that has V&N Twin Slash Ovals. I emailed V&N a couple weeks ago to make sure they are still being made and they said yes. The muffler will bark very well just getting down on the throttle, but at interestate speeds the sound is deep and mellow. was very nice. I had the radio on and did not even need earplugs. Those mufflers are very nice and easy on the ears. I want a set but just not in the budget.

I have HD cans with a Fullsac 1.75 baffle, very quiet, just a little louder than stock. I plan on doing some traveling so the "quiet baffle" is good for me. That way I can hear my tunes.

Karen... Riding behind you, the 1.75 baffles weren't very quiet. LOL

If you want them louder then there is a way. Pull the baffles back out, tightly wrap them with insulation padding and reinsert.

Personally I have a set of megaphone mufflers..They are loud when you open up the throttle..and with this type of muffler you need to add or subtract the discs which can be a PIA to get adjusted correctly.. I would stick with a nice non megaphone type..

good luck

How are they at freeway and cruising speeds? Tuning is pretty simple, I've run a Supermeg for 6 years now and love it. The nice thing about the disk type mufflers is their flexible when it comes to modifications. I've run the same exhaust on everything from a mild 95" build to a hotter 95" build to my present 120. The only difference is I ran less disk with the smaller engine and always with a closed end cap. If you go to the open end cap or put a lot of disk in it does get a louder, a lot louder with the open end cap.

They are a bit loud at hwy to a rumble while cruzing..Yes It is nice to tune with discs but once they get full of rust and exhaust soot the bolts can be a PIA to remove even with anti seize.. Megaphone mufflers are just that mega phone .. they have a closed end cap..Does yours have packing on the baffles??
I have come to terms a nice deep rumble is fine at all speeds..

Sloufoot, Wondering how long you've had the Monster rounds and where ya bought them? Would have bought a set but the $644 price tag turned me off.

I only have about 600 miles on them, so they aren't really broken in yet. I'm told they will get a little louder by 1000 miles, but not much.

I didn't want to do that price either. I bought them off the classified adds on the HD Forum. They only had 200 miles on them but weren't loud enough for the fella. They cost me $250 with shipping. You have to monitor the listings hourly ! I just happened to be there at the right time.

They were virtually new when they got here. New clamps even. He had used his old clamps.

The inside was even clean, like new!

The monster ovals are about the same sound also.

I'm also getting ready to put new exhaust pipes on my 2013 TriGlide and wondered if anyone was running these:

ScreamIn’ Eagle® Street Cannon Performance Slip-on Mufflers (#64900186)

If so, what do you think of them?

They are a 4-inch pipe with what looks like a 1.75" baffle. I told them I don't want LOUD, but a nice deep rumble. On my old bikes, I had V&H oval slip-ons and loved the deep sound of them. Not too loud when just cruising or on the highway, but you could hear them if you jumped on the throttle.

Thanks!

These have a mellow glass pack sound-too quiet for my taste, but sound good when you get on em. I have a brand new pair (still in the box) that came on my screamin eagle Road King with the 103" motor. When I fired it up at the dealer-I knew I needed more noise!

Well, I'm having a set removed tomorrow because they're too loud for the wife and I. We couldn't communicate with these mufflers and Rush true dual header. We had to yell over the intercom at each other. They may be quieter with a stock header. Now, having said all this, they sound good and if I was riding by myself and did not have a passenger then they might stay on the bike.

I'm going with Rush mufflers with my tip choice and a 1.75 baffle. I figure I can change the baffle if it's not loud enough. As other wiser men have said it's easier to change a baffle than change complete mufflers.:D

Thanks for the feedback on these pipes, but its looking like I'll have to hear them for myself since I've got one vote for "too quiet" and one for "too loud". For now I'm leaving in the stock headers, so I would imagine they won't be too loud.

I use the copper anti seize and have had good luck getting the bolts out, their stainless, or at least mine are. I've never found rust on mine, I have found exhaust soot. The Supertrapp megaphone mufflers have a packed core which can be replaced if it was to ever get too loud. I've got around 30,000 miles on mine and it hasn't seemed to get any lounder than when I started using it. One of the reasons I switched to the Supermeg was it being quieter than most performance mufflers plus tuneable.

Now I will say when you jump on it hard and it gets above 5,000 rpms the sucker really barks with a 120" engine pushing through 26 disk and a closed end cap. Last June when I was in a little drag race with a Goldwing I left the light and was on the rev limiter in the blink of an eye, mine is set at 6,200 rpm. I was surpised at the bark, but when riding normal it isn't bad at all, even running 75 mph on the freeway.
