OMG! Another one of us incapacitated! What did YOU do? Tony T dropped a trailer on his foot, Champ totalled his trike (and nearly himself), andI had major foot surgery last month. Nana's granddaughter had a playground accident. Must be something in the water!

Welcome to the club, Ryan. I know a couple of TG owners that that really love their rides and have spent $$ on accessories. (HD stuff is expensive). You didn't say what happened to your leg, but I'll bet your riding experience on the TG will be outstanding.

Post a note when you get it on the road and tell us your impression of it.

BIG congratulations to you, Ryan! And get healed up quickly <img src="images/smilies/smile.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Smile" class="inlineimg" />

Sorry I posted it over on Hdforums, forgot to here, August 4th I was in Illinois with my brother and a few other guys on our way to Sturgis, We came up over a rise in the highway, myself in the fast lane, my bro in the slow lane next to me, with a guy in front of him, and the 4th bike behind me, as we crested the hill an old woman decided it was ok to stop in the fast lane. As soon as I saw her I swerved hard right, when I was maybe 10 feet from her car, she backed up to the right (she missed her exit and was going to cut across the median) so when she backed up it closed the gap on me, my left leg was the first thing to hit her car (the right rear bumper) at 70 mph, my left fork leg hit the rear rim and ripped the rear axle of her car out of its mounts, blew out all the windows and airbags, and apparantly flipped me and my bike end over end (I have no memory of the impact) I came to rest in the middle of the highway, my brother dragged me to the shoulder of the road.
The ambulance finally showed up and took me to a small hospital that was way out of its league with my injuries so I was transferred to a level 1 trauma hospital, on the way my blood pressure dropped and I flatlined, they got my heart going again, when all was said and done, the injuries were:
Compound break of my femur (came through my inner thigh)
Fibula snapped
Ankle broken moving my foot 1" to the left
My big toe was broken and dislocated 2" and pointed 90 degrees left
My left heel pad was severed
23 stitches to close my forehead from where it slammed into the top of my windshield
Road rash up both arms and across my lower back
Several broken fingertips

21 Days in the hospital, 4 in ICU, they put a 15.5" titanium rod in my femur, external brace on my ankle/foot, heel reattached, toe back in place. I've been home for about 2 weeks now, physically I'm doing better but wont ever be the same again, and have a bucket load of prescription grade phsycological issues to try to deal with.
The point of posting all this online is #1 everyone be careful, #2 anyone who's been through a severe accident like this, how did you deal with the mental issues? As for riding, my 02 night train was totaled, I've decided to ride again but its going to be on a trike, my 2 wheel days are over...atleast for the forseeable future...

Congratulations on the new ride. I know you will enjoy it. However, in the situation you were in the results may well have been the same on trike. A good friend of mine was hit yesterday by a school bus turning a corner to go the opposite direction he was traveling. She wasn't paying attention and crossed all the way over into his lane. He ran off the road to dodge her and the left end of the bumper and the left fender sent him and trike flying. Rod in his leg, multiple cracked ribs and a separated shoulder. The irony is he's a school bus driver for the same school district.

welcome aboard Ryan, sorry for the way you got here but we are glad that you have. Trike riding is great. Your healing is going to take awhile but I see that you are being postive and that will make all the difference. Look forward not backwards and good luck.

Find me (Nancy Crigler) and Tony Thompson on Facebook most any time where we commiserate with each other often, also Maury Champs. We all understand the pain and the frustration of being down. Hang in there; you have a bunch of new friends here!

Dam Dude-I hope you got a good settlement from her ins. 3 years ago, I had a lady back out of her driveway, right on me coming down the road on my HD. She had no ins and no money-ended up costing me about 35K. My health ins covered 110K in medical bills and my bike ins repaired my bike @9K. I spent 5 mos in a wheelschair, had broken Fib, Tib, ankle, foot, ribs both knees, and bad burns from the pipes-the bike was on top of me!

I have titanium rods in both bones as well as plates, and skin grafts for the burns, and a bone graft on my fibula.

The good news is that you are younger than me-so you should bounce back quicker. I am walking with a limp (my buddy says I WALK LIKE A DRUNK PENGUIN), the bastid. I still ride on two wheels and have a trike that I am learning to ride. Life sucks sometimes, but you just gotta keep on keepin on!:AGGHH::D:wave4:

Out of the millions of riders and hundreds of millions of miles we ride, accidents happen. You have SURVIVED! You will always remember what happened. USE IT TO EDUCATE OTHERS! Whether you volunteer to tell your story to schools, community gatherings, or whatever....tell your story to the best of your ability. And buy lots of goodies and show them off at the next gathering at Eureka Springs!

I knew you couldn't wait!! Congrats Ryan, now to wear out that catalogue!!

LOL when I got her to drop another thousand off the price, I did the math and it was $27,600 before the prep fee etc, plus 10% of parts, accessories, clothes etc for life, free storage till spring :)

Ryan

Thanks everyone, not gonna go too wild with accessories but I already do have big plans for her, custom paint, black and that new lime gold flake Harley has in the catalog, probobly not flames but not sure on the exact paint scheme yet, down the road once out of warranty I'm planning to hot rod it some, maybe a 110" kit..But for now it's going to get a SE air cleaner, V&H slip ons, the Fuelmoto header pipes, and most likely a TTS tuner...Black powdercoat the front end and some of the other chrome bits (I'm coming off a Nighttrain that I had almost fully blacked out, I dont like polishing chrome) :)

Welcome Ryan, and I too know what you are going thru. 2002 a man crossed the centerline hit me headon, I flew 40 ft behind the car before landing, broken neck, SLAPlesion in right sholder, left wrist pushed back 1 and1/2 inches, left knee torn maniscis,5 teeth broken from front of mouth. And the one thing that really hit me is I went from being the man that is the strength for my family to the man that needs a lot of help. That transition was one of the hardest steps for me to accept. And I did do counselling,it helped a lot, and the person at fault in your accident should cover it,at least in Michigan that is how it works. I wish you all the luck imn thd world, take your time and do it safely.

Welcome to another TriGlide owner. Hope you mend quickly so you can get on that thing. You won't even have to put your feet down.. As a matter of fact, it's not a good idea. :0)
