Trunk Question

I am wanting to add some under-trunk LED's to add a slight red glow to that dark area between the trunk and the rear trike kit. My question is, exactly how does one loosen the trunk to get it to lift to access the underside to be able to run the wiring? And should I wire them into the running lights that are also part of the turn signals?

Don't know the answer but I know where to find it. My best advise to every Wing owner is to invest in a service manual. Either paper or computer based will do just fine but they are truly worth the money.

BTW -- PICTURES when done... GRIN.

With all of the tweaking and customizing I'm also doing, I just might look into adding a similar effect. I have the complete service manual home. I'll check it out later this evening after work regarding the trunk supports. ThumbUp

VERY high on my list of things to get.

Well, I cheated a little and went to a web site that sells LED's and also has the instructions for installation. Used the basics of that to get the back end open. Managed to get two of the three LED's I had hooked in. The third was, somehow, broken so that one came off. Will be replacing it, hopefully, today sometime and should be able to post some photos in the next day or so. Have to wait until it gets a little darker to get a shot with the right effects.:D:D

I just finished adding led strips to the underside of my upper trunk. Didnt place them on the rear due to how the upper trunk is configured but along the sides of the upper trunk..Double sided tape holds them up to the underside of the upper trunk and are hidden from view untill they illuminate & add a nice amber glow to that dark area.

I wanted them to be totally independant of all other running / brake lights i wired them thru already installed ( aftermarket) switch banks that are on top of the clutch and brake resivor. Ran wire under the center cowling and seat back to where i could split L-R for the led strip. Luckily i had those switch blocks already installed and wired in and that saved a bunch of time and headache.

would post pic of finished product but cant figure out how to post pic

I managed to get mine hooked up. They are wired to come on when I turn the bike on. Here's a few photos.....

In the second picture your trunk looks a bit angry. In the final picture it looks furious.

When a single LED goes out do you have to change out the whole strip, or can you change out individual LEDs?

LED's are odd as while they light up they are not like light bulbs. Technically one could replace just the one that went out but for the average person thats not an option due to whats needed top have in order to replace a single LED.
There are light strips that consist of actual mini lights where an individual list can be popped out and replaced.... But those are seldom if ever water proof and they emit heat Unlike LED's that run cool.

led strips such as what you find on Ebay for something like underneath the upper trunk are about 12 -18 inches long, are waterproof ( ans should stipulate that they are waterproof) and have stickitape on the underside to allow for easy mounting of the light strip.... Best guess is around $25 for a set that would work for the underside of the trunk. While mine do sertainly shiow up at night to attract attention to the mikes rear they are more for that additional light in that darker area.

That's what I was looking for as well. Just a little something for that dark recess between the two trunks. I found a long strip at Autozone for 25 bucks. Just a bit of a pain running and hiding the wires. But I think is came out looking pretty good myself.

Your trike looks GREAT. Love that mural on your trunk.

I wanted to seperate my toys from the starting system. So I added a seperate fuse block for all my leds (300) ,stereo, gps, and phone charger powered from an auxillary battery to the fuse block with an on off switch. I put in the extra battery in the tour box with a battery tender I plug in when I get Home. This works well as I can leave everything on at night rally's without having to worry about my starting battery going down. I have ran them for 3 nights once without re-charging.
