Fuel gauge vs. Digital miles to empty gauge

Which gauge do you all rely on most, the analog fuel gauge or the miles remaining to empty digital gauge? Mine does not seem to track together well and I really don't want to run out of gas. Thanks all.

I have an 11 T/G and i mostly go by the miles to empty, At ten miles to empty it reads low then i get gas, Never took more than 5.5 gal. at that point.

Fuel gauge reads empty, I fill up with 4.5 gal. At that point, I'm ready for a rest. Never push the issue or you may end up calling for gas.

My gauges seem to be fairly accurate, when I'm down to 1/2 a tank analog, it takes right around 3 gallons, give or take a bit. The digital was reading about 110 to go, I've never really ran it way down for the warning light to come on.

I trust both to a point but when my light comes on, it says I have 25 miles left I can put 5 gallons and my tank is suppose to hold 6 gallons?”? Wtf?

If you fill the tank right up to the plastic spines….Almost bubbling over the tank will hold a little more than 6 gallons….

My Dakota Digital MLX took a few tank fulls to learn the fuel mileage and doesn't jibe with the analog gauge. Who cares? Any late model big twin should average 30 mpg. We truckers run from fuel stop to fuel stop and I never worried about the fuel gauge that much. My truck averaged 6 miles per gallon( I80 running flat out) My truck with 150 gallon tanks on each side - plenty of fuel for 11 hour driving shift. Idling for a 10 hour break used 1 gallon per hour. The auxiliary power unit 1 gallon in a 10 hour period. Weight of fuel is something riders don't factor in. 7 pounds of fuel X 6 gallons should be factored in if your touring. RULE OF THUMB: NEVER pass a fuel stop. Always fuel before shutting down for the night. Bonus tip: NEVER fall asleep before SHE does!

When I'm traveling I do the same as Notgrownup does, I fill up to the neck, shake, fill, shake, fill..... I pay attention to the analog gas gauge but I also watch my trip miles. When I'm close to 135 or so I start hunting gas.

My tank is only lifted in the front so it throws my analog gas gauge off. Not sure if it causes my digital "miles to empty" to not read correctly.

Mine is about the same. When it says empty I can fill up the neck with lil over 4 gal. Papers says it's a 6 gal tank

Not owned the Goldwing long but have been running to red on the guage to try and get an average mpg.
Most I had to put in has been 19.7ltrs
Paper says 23ltr tank
