Blue lights

Does anyone know if the kuryakyn ring of fire with the blue light reflection toward the front wheel is legal in florida

Statute 316.2397 Certain Lights Prohibited (1) no person shall drive or move or caused to be moved any vehicle or equipment upon any highway within this state with any lamp or devise thereon showing or displaying a red or blue light visible from directly in front

Therefor I would say by the letter of the law the answer is not legal.

Another viewpoint, although it may be a fine line legally - The statute quoted above specifies the red or blue lights must not be visible directly in front. On the Ring Of Fire on our trike the lights on the inside shine onto the wheel, and aren't visible to the front. The lights are hidden by the flange on the rotor cover.

If you want to be completely safe you could switch the inner lights or even the whole R.O.F. so you can turn them off and on as the situation allows.

Just to be clear when the statute says, light to be visibile directly to the front, it means not the physical bulb but the light coming off of it. So even though the bulbs are on the side the light shines outward and is visible from the front. Your odds of being stopped and ticketed is about 50/50.

:Agree:

I been stopped and warned in Pennsylvania.

I have them and never stopped in Florida for the past three years. I agree with the logic that they do not shine forward at all. They (ROF) are directed inward towards the wheel only. The only way I can even see them is standing on the side of my trike and looking at the reflection off the wheel/rim. If an officer stops someone for that, they need something better to do with their time. I have a son and son-in-law in law enforcement and they say they would never stop someone for that unless they appeared to be breaking another law.

I have had Kury Ring of Fire, Blue and Red, on my 06 trike since new.
They are on all the time and have never been stopped for it.

I afraid you would in Florida. As a matter of fact I would have to ask you to turn them off. The ring of fire would fly for most of us but the under lights would not.

Texas law reads just about the same. Visible from the front. I had the trike inspected two years ago and the inspector balked at giving me the sticker. I made him pull out the rule and showed him where it specified that if the blue lights were showing in front of the trike then it was not legal. He somewhat relunctly gave me the sticker. A few weeks ago I had the trike inspected again same place and there was no discussion. The trike passed immediately. I also have ridden this at night with no interference by LEO.

Thanks for all the imput guys..come to find out they cant be installed on my trike anyway ..2012 with air bag (rof screws up the sensors on the front end)

The GWRRA group I sometimes ride with has been warned about the ring of fire lights - we were stopped at a gas station and the police car pulled up and cop said I hope you are going to turn those off before you get on the road. NOT LEGAL in Alabama.

I was in a M/C shop today where they were installing blue lights on a rice-burner. Supposedly they are for display purposes only. The subject of them being street legal was brought up and the installer mentioned he had told the M/C owner that he would get ticketed if he turned them on while the M/C was moving.

It'll only be a matter of time before the M/C owner gets "froggy" and runs with the blue lights on. Here it's a $75.00 fine and I'll venture to guess 1 point on your driving record.

Florida Monroe county steady on blue lights non-moving $188. Florida state 843.081 If they can be Flashed or rotated criminal misdemeanor of the first degree even if they are off.
