Post Your VW Trike Pics

Re: Post Your VW Trike Pictures HERE

Hi, I am Yuichi Yoshida " RG.yoshi" from Japan.
I have made my own trike about 20 trikes since 10 years ago.
I made from Honda 50cc to Roth C Cab. And also I make trikes for my friends and I owned the garage ' Ryo's Garage' in Tokyo for my hobby.
There are the customers who wants to make the only one full customed trikes.

I would like to have many friends who love to make by your own and I am appreciated if you can leave any comments.

Thank you!

A change of the first year.

Because one year passed from production, I changed my image.

The feeling is the best when I run in TRIKE which changed the image!ThumbUp

Even a car show of Japan was popular!

Finally got my trike done, 12" over inverted wide glide frontend with a 21 " front wheel, rake is at 45 degrees plus frontend has a 6 degree rake in it, what a ride it is and handles great too, single seater.

Re: Post Your VW Trike Pictures HERE

Please see latest build pictures.

Frame in primer coat
Gear linkage sorted
Extended bell housing built with clutch mechanism and relocated starter motor
Suspension link arms built
Front forks (Harley Fat boy) and wheel

My previous pictures were mainly mocked up for design purposes. I am now at the dry build stage. No way can they fully fabricate a bike from start to finish in 10 days on biker build off.

Hope you like it.

Ok where to start. Engine is a 2110 stroker. 82mm super race crank. 90.5 Cima jugs. Eagle 2246 cam. Super case. 1.25 ratio rockers. 050 d-ported heads. 42mm in 37.5 out ss valves. 44 idf clone carbs. Somewhere around 160 hp. Trans is swing axle. Early (1965) short axle that is shortened 5 inch per side. Oiling and misc parts remachined to run upside down. Hd splined gear shafts. 1.26 third. 0.82 fourth. 3.44 Rancho ring and pinion. Billit side covers. Crown super diff. The chassis is a honda front end. Honda handle bars and controlls. Honda seat pan and trunk. The frame is water pipe frome home depot. Rear suspension is ss swing arms with cross mounted boat trailer spring. Fenders are axle mounted boat trailer units. Lots and lots of hand made pieces to make it all work.

Re: Post Your VW Trike Pictures HERE

The reason the tranny is mounted upside down is that the engine has been forward mounted, not rear as usual for these engine so if the diff was mounted around the right way up you would have four reverse gears and one forward, so fitting the gearbox upside down swings the diff to the opposite side of the pinion and awwla you solve the problem and you have four forward gears with the engine forward mounted successfully simple solution to a complexing problem VW's, ahh so versatile.:wave4:

Re: Post Your VW Trike Pictures HERE

The main reason was to lower the ground clearance down to chopper motorcycle height without cambering the axles badly. Secondly it puts the center of gravity below the axle centers. Formula "V" racers used to do this. Thirdly I did not want to run on the "heal" of the ring and pinion. I have never heard of anyone having a problem with a flipped ring gear but from an engineering point of view I think you would be pulling on the coast side of the teeth. Flip the whole trans and the ring is still on the correct side of pinion. You caint just flip one upside down, it does take some machine work to the oiling system. Had to build the trans anyhow to get the gear ratios I wanted, so might as well do it how I wanted.

I rode the yellow trike for 7 years, until it was perfect :) and sold it 3/12. I had the orange one on the road 10 days later.

Got all my old school headlights on now. Alfa radiator up the front where it works best.

Placing the radiator up front it was too wide to use the pedal (automatic trans) so had to make up some adjustable pedal so when my wife gets her license she'll reach them.

Now I have to take some more pics for nana for the calendar...

Re: Post Your VW Trike Pictures HERE

this is my new project . these are the before shots. can anybody tell me what kind of fork that is ? i think older sportster . the bottom part of the rizer bars that hold the handle bars is made into the top triple tree & the front hub is not made for a front brake. plus the only mark on it is usa on the rubber shock boots.
