XM Satellite radio?

I started listening to satellite radio several years ago when I was doing long-haul trucking. It was nice to be able to drive from coast to coast without having to change radio stations every 50-100 miles. I got so used to it that I have XM radios in both my car and my pickup truck. I was happy to find that I could get an XM receiver for the new Tri-Glide, and paid the extra $400 to have it installed in my brand new bike back in February.

The bike has been back to the Harley shop FOUR TIMES now because the radio keeps cutting out and sometimes refuses to work at all. This past time, they replaced the XM receiver with a new unit and did some other work on the stereo system. They also went through the H-D brand helmet headsets to find out whey they were not working properly.

As I rode home from the shop last night everything seemed to be working properly, but still... I'm not sure I trust the work my local Harley shop has been doing. Any suggestions?

I actually wish I could justify paying the monthly fee but a CD does me just fine. I don't mind repeats because it's all stuff I really like to begin with.

As far as your problem, it's not a saftey issue so what's the problem? Look on the bright side, you get to go back now and then to see what they have new. Electronics and reception is all voodoo to me anyway. I'd stick with them now or as Hillary would say, "at this point what difference does it make". Witch!

I wish we could still get lifetime subscriptions for satellite..They stop that a few years ago..

I have been with XM from 2006. I have 5 units, 2 cars, 1 truck, 1 boat and my Harley. Being with them for so long I get a good rate which I think is fair. Wouldn't drive any where without my XM. On the Harley, $400 is alittle rich for an XM, so I just paid around $70 for a radio and mounted it on my dash. Plugs into the mini plug on the radio, has a rain proof case. The other unit is my GPS, about the same price. Both work great.

The PROBLEM is that I paid more for this 3-wheel piece of crap than I paid for my first house! For the amount of money I have put into it, I expected it to be PERFECT! Every time the stupid thing quits working, it really pisses me off!

I'm beginning to realize that more than 50 years of riding motorcycles and never owned a Harley MAY have been a good thing. I never had problems like this from my BMW, OR Yamahas or even my Kawasaki.

I know exactly how you feel. My first Harley should have been replaced by Harley because it ate drive belts and the dealer mechanic did everything he could think of to correct it. But Harley refused to acknowledge there might just be something wrong that they could learn from. So I rode it and bitched all the time. When I finally had enough and sold it, it was ready for it's 4th belt at 66k miles. I took the money and went straight to the BMW dealer where I picked up a K100LT and had 63K trouble free miles. My only problem is I was never comfortable on it. I just didn't fit right and nothing seemed to help. Harleys just fit me without doing one darn thing. So guess where I am again. Talk about your dumb idiot.:AGGHH: And gues what? The troubles are back.:gah: Not belt this but the brains! I can't win or that's just Harley. If I can swing it I'll be on a Indian or Victory next. If I live that long I guess.:Dorag: I keep saying, you just have to ride it out. Hasn't worked.;)

Fuzzy, how is the reception?

My biggest issue is that the buffer isn't big enough and If I go into a grove of trees, the xm goes away. On back roads it can get frustrating but on the interstate, I really enjoy being able to listen to the different programming. I can always get Bluegrass without having to know the station or classic rock or Jimmy Buffet or sports or..... whatever.

I would not buy a car or bike without it.

I felt your pain! When we traded in the '09 Tri-Glide it was on its 3rd radio, Thank God for extended warranties. We are also Sirius / XM radio freaks. We did buy a lifetime subscription way back when.... hell of a deal. Also got a Pioneer Inno XM receiver. I used to Velcro it to the tank bib on my Ultra and Tri-Glide. Now it is our boat. Can't survive without my daily dose of Right Wing Super Conservative radio.

I have the XM radio unit purchased at my dealer....had it in my '09 TG and transferred to the '13. I pay for music only, which was $20+ per month....decided to go yearly. I have no issues with my XM radio...yes, you will lose reception between mountains, forests and tunnels....geesh, it's only for a few minutes, don't panic! I have had issues with the HD headsets...have had 3 replaced under warranty! Back and forth to the dealer, but think we got everything "dialed in"...my bad, was pushing the "talk button" towards the front, which turns off the squelch and the CB radio sound disappeared....service dept was most patient with me and never had a harsh word about "operator error". I would not be without my XM radio music (Ch5 to be exact)!!!!

I've had issues in the past with the XM on my Ultra Limited. It turned out the antenna plug would loosen and pop out after riding on some of our less than pristine roads here in NJ & PA. The location of the antenna inside the fairing is less than optimum. Fuzzy had the right idea in moving it up to the dash.
So far I've had no problems with my Tri-Glide. Gonna keep my fingers crossed.
