Why is my bike moving when clutched?

2009 Harley trike. I put new wild 1 bars on over the weekend. Installed new clutch cable 6" longer than stock and set clutch as Harley tech manual states, and adjusted free play. Put in gear and take off, then clutch it and bike still will move and brakes not strong enough to stop. Have done this same job a few years ago to different bike so not first time doing it. Any ideas what I did wrong?

Mechanics 101........Go back to the last thing you did.....Too much free play...:Shrug:

Did you adjust the center adjuster behind the derby cover?

Adjusting the cable free travel is only 1/2 of an adjustment

Are you sure the cable ramp inside the trap door is working correctly?

I loosened the cable all the way up. Took off derby cover, loosened nut up and screwed out center screw then went in with it till hit resistance than backed out 1/4 turn or so then tightened up nut. then adjusted end play to 1/16-1/8". when I had trans cover off to change cable everything looked good in there but that's where i'm wondering if something is wrong. probably going to look at that again if I can't find anything else.

Next time, try 1/2 turn on the clutch pushrod screw Just for grins

well I rechecked things and found the adjustment screw on clutch had turned itself out. Nut was still up against clutch So i either didn't have it torqued correctly like i thought or something is making it do that. will retighten tomorrow and see what happens.

Mark, I usually run the screw all the way in and then back out 3/4 turn and lock. I have found that the stainless cables have a little more flex and are touchier to adjust and still have free-play.

well all seems good now. I correctly tightened the jam nut and went for a ride using the clutch quite frequently and worked great! thanks all for the info.
