White Fog on Chrome

What causes the white fog on the cowbell (horn)? This occurred when riding interstate in 6th about 80 mph. I have had this happen once or twice, not a regular occurrence. I could see a white haze on the chrome around the rear of the cowbell, and a bit on the air cleaner chrome cover.

If it's an light oil film could be a small amount of blow-by, Or a front valve cover weeping a little? Need more info..

It's not blow by. That on the other side of the engine. Its heat. I had it on both my TG's. Wards Fans solved it. Also solved pinging and dropped CHT 50-60*.

:Agree:

Had the same thing happen to my 2011 TG before I cooled it down. The "normal" "it's ok, they're designed to run that hot" heat was so much that it was burning the chrome, giving it that white haze.

Should have taken pictures, did not think of it and already cleaned all of it off.

It was 101° and I was running at 80 mph so Kevin is probably correct. The oil temp was reaching close to 280° F for a while until I turned on the Wards Fans, then it dropped to about 150°. Normally would have them on, but has gone through some very heavy cross winds earlier and had turned them off as the fans with cross wind do cause more heat on the leg.
So probably excessive heat from working her hard without the fans on.

:Shrug:Just wondering?
If you can wipe it off is it a chrome wax getting to hot?

Does it look like this?

Like that but not on the back of the AC, on the horn, rocker box and even sparkplug boot. Now I have not had this happen since, and have been keeping my wards fans on auto, no longer turning them off.

Yes, it is easily wiped off, and good point, with the heat it could be baking the chrome sealer I had put on. None the less, I am not concerned since it happened the one time, and must have been heat baking some sealer, wax, or something off. I didn't see any pattern like it was header leak, or anything like that.
Thanks all for helping my first panic of WTF. I am relieved now to know it was just the hottest I ever saw the 103 get.
