Chrome Wheels

I have a 2012 TG and the wheels are stained. Had I known this would happen, I would have clear coated them when new. I guess the only way out would be to go chrome. Anyone used the chromers like you find on eBay? Quality? Price? Just thinking.

There's another thread on this subject with more info.

You could have just sprayed on S100 Corrosion Protectant on them. I did that in the past and worked great.

I had the same problem with the staining. NOTHING got ride of it - believe me. I even tried sandpaper.

I decided to get them chromed, but none of the platers would give me a warranty because I ride in the winter in Chicago. So I bought the H-D Anarchy wheels for the summer and just use the stock wheels in the winter - I don't care how they look.

FYI. I have a set of brand spanking new OEM wheels (that I was going to have plated) for sale if anyone is interested.

First winter 2011, And the stock rims were stained' pitted and blackened, I tried fine sand paper [wet] And they looked good.. for a very short time.. Now I just live with it..
Besides I don't care too much how they look I got the Trike to ride in all weather all year,
Dirt is a badge of honor.. Shows you actually ride the thing..

I agree, but I do like nice shiny wheels. The fairing and all else can be dirt covered and bug splattered, but I have to have shiny wheels. :D :D

Years ago I use to wash AND wax my bikes almost every month or as soon as I got back from a long vacation, but now I look at it and say "it's just going to get dirty again next week" then I'll spritz some Windex on the wheels and walk away.
That's why I have winter wheels - I don't have to do a damn thing with them even though Chicago loves salt and that awful chemical crap that eats everything - I don't care what they look like. ThumbUp

I had not heard of S100 before reading your post. Thanks for the insight. I did some online research and it looks interesting. Does anybody know of any reason not to use it?

Well if you don't want to sand, file, chisel the wheels to clean them go with the chrome..lot easier to maintain..ThumbUp

I've been using it for many many years and I ride all year in the Chicago area. If you look at my bikes you will not see any salt corrosion anywhere. Just remember to clean your rotors with brake cleaner after spraying your wheels with S100. I've also use other S100 products on my cars and bikes. I originally learned about S100 when I owned a couple Corvettes. Great products.

I have turned on a lot of chapter members to it and they have thanked me because now they can ride all winter too.

GaryD, can you expand on you comment "clean your rotors with brake cleaner after spraying your wheels with S100". I am assuming to clean the residue from the S100 spaying on the wheel. Is there any problem with the S100 getting on the tires?? I had never heard of the S100 corrosion cleaner/preventive and just ordered a can last night on the net. Any procedural comments will be most appreciated.

Thanks for your comments/information on this product!!

Ride safe, and have a Happy New Year.

I buy my S100 at the dealer. I think just about every Harley dealer sells it (and most other motorcycle dealers) - at least I've seen it at all the dealers I visit. You are correct - use brake cleaner to remove any of the S100 that might have hit the rotor.

I don't know what effect it has on tires. It's consistency is like real thick wax. You can buff it after you spray it on, but I don't. I only use it in the winter months to protect against the salt and I don't care what it looks like - nobody comes up and looks at the bike in the winter anyway. :D

Stay away from the belt (I don't think it will hurt it but just in case) and pipes also (may stink and discolor).

In March I clean it off with soap and water. Then repeat every December. ThumbUp

I've been using S100 Total Cycle Cleaner and S100 Wheel Cleaner (clings better/longer then regular S100) for years and just started using S100 Special Surfaces Cleaner for all plastics a couple years ago. The Engine Brightener really makes a dull engine look new again - that blew me away.

As you can see I really like their products and haven't found any negatives for any of the S100 products. line........well....maybe the price. ;) :)

Thanks Gary, I purchased the S100 on the net because my Dealer does not carry it. They have several S100 items but not this specific one. If I like it, I will press them to keep it on hand. I will be following your advise on the usage and see where it goes. Here in Oregon, they do not put salt on the roads, but some kind of chemical that I do not like but don't know exactly what it is. I will not ride in the stuff when it is fresh (liquidy).

Thanks again for your prompt response!!
