When not to do the "Wave"

They have this very same thread going on at the GL1800 forum. I'll post my response here as well;

Ya know,,,, I'm into old cars more then my trike. And when I encounter any other antique car on the road, I always wave, give a thumbs up or do a short beep with the horn. I see no reason not to do the same with any other motorcycles, trikes, side-car rigs, ect.. To me it's just a common courtesy while also showing appreciation and camaraderie. ThumbUp

ok guys
here's my take on it,,
I have been riding since the early 60's a lot of thing have changed for sure.. for one I can't hold up a bike riding double when it count!! like every stop sign,,, so life goes on,,, just on 3 wheels!! I wave when I can and I could care less what you ride or who you are ..i like to ride on 2 lane roads..i wave at kids, tractors what ever-who ever its all good.. doesn't cost anything and can only make me fell better,, if they wave back ok if not no big deal...I don't sweat the small stuff!!!

Re: BikeBandit.com

,,,Guys most of us was riding when he was nothing but a drip . Years ago I was asked to join a group that rode nothing but Harleys by a friend and part of it was you rode with nothing else . I kindly rejected and was never asked again .

I ride and have rode many years with any and every kind of bikes and never have or never will be like that . It's not only people like this jerk but many others have their hangups . I say whatever you ride and like , I'll like it with you , may not buy one but if you want to ride with me lets go . Personally that sh&t doesn't bother me but can't believe they allowed him to print it . It will bite 'em smack dab in the butt ( that's where the wallet stays ) and I for one will not forget the article when buying . SO GUYS RIDE FREE , RIDE LONG AND RIDE SAFE . Most of all ride what makes you happy and remember (to each his own ) .:)

I wave, and have waved, at every bike I see for the past 50 yrs. The hell with this guy that figures he is too good to wave a Trikes. He'll grow up someday.......it just might take a while.

I sent an email directly to the company letting them know that I thought the article written by Aaron Cortez was insulting to a large number of riders some of whom have been riding for years. The strange thing is he states it is cooler to ride a two wheeler because of the more inherent "danger" of two versus three wheels. However if you go to his short biography he disses anyone who does not wear a full face helmet. I think he is an arrogant little snot.

Growing up riding I rode all kinds of bikes. Some one was always poking fun at what you rode (usually your friends) but it was all in fun no real disrespect intended. A lot of it just became slang for the type of bike ( rice burner, rat bike, trailer queen....)
I still get it today about my trike ( needing training wheels to ride) I tell them I have come full circle. Started out on a tricycle .... Like I said , all in fun. I don't know this guy, and I don't think his comments were in made in fun. Now when some one doesn't wave at me I will know it was Aaron Cortez.

I would bet Bike Bandit is real happy with him and his article today ! Looks like they are probly getting a few e-mails from some upset trikers.

He is going to need that full face helmet when Karma catches up with him.

At this point in my life Im just happy to be riding
:Dorag:

Seems Cortez is trying to make amends. But I agree with kkaykk, I still think he's an arrogant little snot....

Wow...the response to this article was a lot bigger than I expected.

After reading through all the comments and emails, I want to thank many of you for bringing my attention to the fact that many of those who ride on three wheels are disabled, and a lot of them rode motorcycles for decades before having to make the switch to stay on the road. I will admit, that really didn’t occur to me when I wrote this, but I appreciate our readers taking the time to make that known to me. Certainly no offense was intended.

As a veteran myself, I am especially disheartened that some people drew a line from my comment about not waving to trikes/Can-Ams to me disrespecting disabled veterans. I am extremely proud to be part of veteran community, and me having a lack of respect for any of them really couldn’t be further from the truth.

So thanks for all your feedback, and for sharing some some new perspectives on the matter; I’ll have them in mind when I ride in the future.

Respectfully,
-Aaron Cortez

"IF", He has been genuinely enlightened and educated by all of the negative responses, and He changes His total perspective and views after all of this, I'm willing to give Him a "benefit of a doubt pass" in the future. The main goal, when Someone in Our Beloved Sport makes this verbal mistake (He's not the first, and won't be the last...;)), it's up to the rest of us to educate Them...If He's learned, and uses this education in the future, He's now a "Genuine Asset" to All of Us and Riding.....Time will tell.....ThumbUp

I can forgive the ignorance of his opinions. Blame it on his youth. Cant believe his blog wasn't proof read by some one at bike bandit.
to forgive is one thing , takes me a long time to forget.

It takes a pretty narrow minded simpleton to have a group of riders that he will not acknowledge and brag about it.

What is even more curious is the number of riders that are compelled to explain why they are on 3 wheels to this JackAss. ie: "I have a bad back'', ''medical condition forces me off 2 wheels'', etc.

I am 67, healthy, have an Ultra and bought a TriGlide because they are cool and I'll wave at anyone.

I think BikerBandit.com and many other vendors just learned a very valuable lesson from this. We in the trike community are a large yet close-knit brotherhood who support one another and choose to spend our hard earned bucks with those who support us. They made a misstep that will cost them dearly.

Yep....small window for error when posting on the "Blue Screen" if You own a business.....ThumbUp

Whats crazy is he went on a Trike web site to make stupid comments about Trikes, go figure. just showed his :kpzxvq:

Started thinking again about what this idiot said and I am hard pressed to understand what he bases his weak facts on.

Quote from JackAss: '
'There's just something about the idea of being on two wheels that is inherently dangerous, that creates a kind of solidarity between you and the other folks on the road taking the risk for the thrill of riding. But trikes and Can-Ams? So much of the risk is gone there; that sense of freedom, and the danger that goes with it, goes away as soon that third wheel is added. I feel like a part of waving is kind of a mutual recognition of each other’s coolness. But three-wheels are so uncool, it just feels...unnatural. (Don't feel bad though...I'mcertain trike and Can-Am riders wave to each other.)''

What is he trying to say, outside of 3 wheels being more stable at rest, the remainder of his logic escapes me.

Have a great evening, I am through now
:)

Re: BikeBandit.com

These guys are not getting my money no more, for sending out a message that slaps most trikers like me....and they wrote.......

Sorry guys, but I just find it awkward waving to vehicles on three wheels. I'll admit I'm not a really eager waver in general – but I'll wave to any bike, even scooters, out on the road when the circumstances are right. There's just something about the idea of being on two wheels that is inherently dangerous, that creates a kind of solidarity between you and the other folks on the road taking the risk for the thrill of riding.

Who is Aaron?

I too wave to mopeds. I do find a lot of Harley guys won't wave to me on anything I ride since they are not Harley's. I hope they never look back in there mirror as they will see my second wave.

Oh wait they can't!

Look, anyone that doesn't want to wave to a triker has a problem, and it sure ain't mine. I won't loose any sleep over it. I'm a waver to anyone who wants to wave, and even to some who don't. Any rider that doesn't want to wave for whatever reason can certainly stick their attitude where the sun don't shine.

Some Folks will NEVER change, Others will pick up on the criticism They receive for poor choices, think about it, learn from it, and make adjustments.......ThumbUp

I think Yogi, Said it very elegantly;

If you don't wave to them , They won't wave back to you.... Or something like that.... :):D

Interesting thing this week. All sorts of different bikes are waving at me first. Including while commuting.

I attribute this to the majority or riders reading that putzes article and realizing just what a moron he is.
