Teenage adults spend 50% of there time , day/night, playing computer games. With all the Shootem Up games out there, would it give a disgruntled kid ideas? Or make a kid disgruntled?

Yes I’m from a different time. But fish still swim, sandlots still exist, and I had the coolest bicycle on the block.

Unfortunately, way too many of our generation were too busy satisfying their own wants to teach their children. Now they are parents and clueless how to do the parent job. Yes it is intentional and if incentive was not ingrained years ago it may not ever happen. Today's children are at a real disadvantage compared to our generation. They have to basically raise themselves in many circumstances.

Is it too late to reverse the trend? NO, but it's not going to happen with wishes and wringing of hands.

Not for nuthin but it doesn't matter what we did. Its what they're doin. And they wouldn't listen to an farts oplnion anyway. Its not about the way we were, its about the way they are. We can't change them.

I guess the turning point began after WWII.

The 1950's ushered in Consumerism and everything from this new age made even more of us become what we loathe, materialistic.

It has just naturally progressed with the ever increasing technology.

Families and siblings are no longer close at hand with some generations being spread around the world.

Parents are too busy, those that are still married and working, to teach and nurture their children and they now turn that chore over to a new nanny, the computer game.

Kids are missing the basics because of overly-protective parents today but still can't tell time without digital readout or make change for a dollar without their I-phone.

Our parents and grandparents said the exact same thing about us !

Good post Fuzzy.

Also, I like the reference to “monsters” as opposed to “acting like animals” or “animalistic” as so much media likes to say. Animals do not have “monster” mentality. Animals act like animals...there is no aforethought as to destruction of other animals just for fun; animals exist to satisfy their natural instincts as nature has designed them to do....satisfy hunger, self-defense, and reproduction of their same kind. I wish the media would leave animals out of the picture. It’s like comparing apples to oranges - no logic there whatsoever.

In fact, if people would go back to “acting like animals” I believe the world would be a MUCH better place than what we are witnessing right now.

My thoughts are the starting point of disrespect came around about 1968......

And the seed's was planted years earlier by the 3 Stooges.........

AKA.....Johnson' MacMera' Westmoreland....

I think all points above are right. No one thing has allowed this to happen and many different combinations influence people. The ability to hit reset and the character comes back to life doesn't help but the realization that people die and your life is over if you do this isn't being getting through their heads. It may be the young mind thinking this is their whole life is the cause.Like when teens think if such and such happens no one will like me anymore or if I don't get this I won't be included and my life will be over. They just don't have the ability to see how much longer they have to live and the people they are concerned about probably won't know or care or even be in there life in a few years.

Fuzzy, what got my little mind working was between the fla shooter, blaming gun control, and my 20 yr old grandson who’s a cancer survivor that gets depressed, as he’s parinoid of it ever coming back. The kids today are not bad kids. Us as parents work and leave them unsupervised, OUR dads worked and mom took care of us. Brought us here and there. They watched out for us just in a diferent way, cause they were there. Working parents are not there. So cell texes are there way of communication. When today’s kids need there parents there not there! That’s ware grandpa/grandma come into play.

It works most of the time but not all of the time. Just seems like we’re missing something and can’t put our finger on it.

We got our first TV in 1953. Had 3 channels that ran from 6 AM to 10 PM (maybe less) if I remember right.

If you wanted to entertain yourself you went outside and played with the kids next door/down the block. You went to the library if you needed some information. You read Popular Mechanics and Popular Science (a staple at our house) and got ideas on things to build and how to do it. These were all social activities.

Now we binge watch Netflix, play video games in the basement all night, and "interact" virtually anonymously via Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Anti-Social behavior comes from Non-Social environments.

This article points out what the Social Media is doing to the young and maybe not so young. The real question here should be 'What happens when those addicted to Social Media are rejected completely to then be absorbed in their own personal fantasy world ?'
