What's this noise?!

I have a squeal coming from a belt (I think it's a belt). The noise occurs every time I take my hand off the throttle and the trike slows. Or if I downshift, the noise occurs. This has been a constant since I got the trike (2024 RG3).

Does anyone else have this issue? If so, have you been able to identify the source of the squeal and determine how to correct it?

BTW, squeal may not be the best term, but I don't know how else to describe it.

May not be your issue, but I had a similar squeal/galling noise I thought when letting off the throttle and also sitting idling on occasion. I had just put a cam, exhaust, and open style air cleaner with a factory cover adapter on and thought it was something related to the cam, lifters, new bearing, or chain guide. If I opened the throttle a bit, the noise would always go away though.

Decided to take the air cleaner off and noticed the throttle body was a bit oily and dirty with a hard black coked oil film. Sprayed it with some carb cleaner, pushed open the butterfly valve and sprayed some more inside, then used an old toothbrush to dissolve the black film. Sprayed some more carb cleaner, then wiped the body and edges of the butterfly valve off. Started it and the noise was gone.

So I read several comments on the problem and guys using catch cans and different ways to vent it so it wasn’t coating the throttle body with oil again.

Didn’t want to screw with a catch can, so decided to keep it simple and just ran a simple vent line with a “Y” and routed it down with the radiator overflow vent hose. If it drips a drop or two of oil on the garage floor, oh well…I’m honoring heritage!

Without hearing it, its gonna be hard to pinpoint the noise. It could be drive belt related, ie, tension or alignment. It could be primary related, ie, tensioner, fluid, etc, or a combination or possibly even what @HDUSA1 said. Since your trike has had the issue since you bought it, I would let the dealer diagnose and cure it.

My 2001 Road Glide did this after I replaced the drive belt, What I found was the belt was too loose, so when I would let off the throttle, the top of the belt would deflect upwards and rub the boss going from the inner primary to the transmission. Once I got it properly adjusted the noise went away.

May sound silly, if you have the slip in sissy bar take it out and go for a ride. I didn't have squeal but I did have a chirp and the Sissy bar rubbing in the socket was the culprit.
