What gives with the titles?

I'm a newbie so please forgive the question. I notice different designations for the members eg; Rider,Tour captain, legend, Iron butt. What gives?:

First of all, Welcome to TT - glad you found us...

Ref: Titles - - As I understand it, most of them are "fun titles" associated with the number of posts you make and are assigned "automatically" by the system. "Special titles" can be manually assigned by the site director (Bazooka).

Hey, I'm just glad my title isn't "itchy britches" anymore. Don't want to be reminded of all that poison ivy. The only thing more painful was the wife yelling every 2 minutes to stop scratching.
