Passing with vacuum wipers definitely took Intestinal Fortitude. Went something like this:

Pull up on car to be passed.

Take foot off accelerator.

Get 2 good wipes to see if it was clear.

Gas it and pull out to pass with no wiper action.

Keep it to the floor until about half way past other car.

Take foot off the gas to get 2 more good wipes to check if the road was still clear.

If clear, gas it again with no wiper action until you passed the other car.

Pull back in and take foot off the gas to get good wipes to see if the road was clear.

People in grey cars that can't seem to figure out how to turn on their headlights when it is overcast or raining. That's even with automatic lights available on today's cars.
