What brand of Motorcycle is #1 in sales??

Very aggressive marketing strategies is the key! You play in the world market you have to include the people who only make $1000 or less a year.

YUP, as the article points out, third world nations make up a HUGE portion of the "Units Sold" market. We smile and chuckle while viewing a photo of an entire family on a 150 cc motorcycle but it's pretty common in some of the under developed parts. They don't think anything about traveling that way. And they do it for pennies to a mile..... :xszpv::xszpv:

Lived in India for a few years. The vehicle of choice was the bicycle. You could buy one back in the early 80s (when I was there) for about $35. A 350cc Enfield which was the king of the motorcycle world at that time was about $800. A small percentage of middle class Indians could afford that kind of luxury. A scooter cost a bit less and either could handle family transport. There was a huge gap between what they considered middle-class and the rich. At that time, international motorcycle manufacturers were more or less kept out of the local market and only indigenous makes were allowed to compete... As we were living, Yamaha had made inroads and it appears today the the market is fairly open. I owned a Ramona... a 250cc ALL HEAVY STEEL four stroke single with 6V electrics. I owned the only one that I ever saw or heard of... $350 for a new one back then. The Ramona came in baby-crap brown and I had it repainted orange to make it sportier. It could probably go 50 mph safely and you didn't want to ride after dark as the headlight was like a candle. Wish I had bought a Royal Enfield and brought it home.

I was actually expecting the answer to be a Chinese manufacturer but glad to see it be Honda, with Yamaha being number 2! Both are well made and dependable motorcycles...

a lot more diversity in the Honda line up for the lower priced units . also as the article points out they are available in a lot more countries as a cheaper form of transportation. Nothing wrong with Honda motorcycles imo. I have owner 4 or 5 over the years and they served me well. when I bought my Harley's it was for a lot of reasons none of which were gas mileage or price.
